MADISON, Ill. – Gateway International Raceway is pleased to announce it will once again host a track walk on its 1.25-mile oval Saturday, July 18, prior to the running of the Missouri-Illinois Dodge Dealers 250. This special event for GIR ticketholders kicks off at 2:15 p.m. At that time, race fans will get the opportunity to walk on the same track their favorite drivers will race on later that evening.

An added bonus is the participation of St. Louis native and NASCAR star Kenny Wallace. "I’m very excited that Gateway asked me to participate with this event," said Wallace, who also co-hosts "NASCAR RaceDay" on SPEED. "St. Louis is my hometown and whatever I can do to help out my hometown and organizations like the American Red Cross and BackStoppers, I’ll do it."

This year’s track walk is to benefit the American Red Cross (RedCrossSTL.org) and BackStoppers (Backstoppers.org). Fans will be allowed to participate in the track walk after making a $10 donation with all proceeds going to the aforementioned organizations.

Last year, the St. Louis Area Chapter responded to 1,193 fires and other local disasters and provided $311,545 in direct financial assistance to 771 families to help them meet their immediate needs for food, shelter, and clothing. In addition, they educated 107,869 individuals, predominantly school-aged children, in the best ways to prevent and prepare for emergencies and disasters through our Community Disaster Education program.

"We are grateful for the support of Gateway International Raceway to raise funds for the American Red Cross to ensure our community is a safer place," said Corinne Story of the American Red Cross, St. Louis Chapter.

Started in 1959, The BackStoppers provides needed support and financial assistance to the spouses and children of all local and county police officers, firefighters, publicly-funded paramedics and EMTs and volunteer fire protection units, who have lost their lives performing their duty.

"Backstoppers is very pleased to work with Gateway International Raceway for the Missouri-Illinois Dodge Dealers 250 track walk," said BackStoppers Executive Director Chief Ron Battelle. "Gateway has worked with us in the past to help the families of police officers, firefighters, and emergency workers who have fallen in the line of duty and we are grateful for their efforts."
