Wendell Wallace Takes 1st MARS Win of the Season at West Plains

West Plains, MO - Wendell Wallace of Batesville, AR, took home the $3,000 first place money Saturday night. Wallace took the lead spot on the last lap, after Jack Sullivan of Greenbrier, AR, lead 39 laps of the 40 lap feature event that was sponsored by Centurytel. Twenty-two super late models took the green flag in the caution free feature after 25 drivers had competed in the heats and B-feature to establish the starting grid. Centurytel sponsored the full evenings competition where Shawn Walsh of Ash Flat, AR, scored his first IMCA Modified feature win of the season. Walsh started third row outside and worked his way into the lead by lap 5 and held the field off to the checkered flag. Last week's winner, Chris Piper of West Plains, took second followed by Tony Anglin of Walnut Ridge, AR, Brandon Ball of Koshkonong, and Billy Romans of West Plains.

Balance of the field included: John Mostrom of Flippin, AR, Jason Hughes and Kevin Collins, both of West Plains, Kevin Salter of Batesville, AR, Ross Camponovo of Clarksdale, MS, Dusty Johnston of Yellville, AR, Richard Eagan of Pocahontas, AR, Trent Cockrum of West Plains, Brian Judd of Caulfield, Scott Crigler of Alton, Lonnie Judd of Caulfield, Carmon Vincent of Moody, Calvin Tribble of West Plains, Kelly Marsh of Willow Springs, Bill Adams of West Plains, Marty Toten of Pomona, Bryan McKee of Mtn. Home, AR, Jerry Croney of West Plains and Rustin Miller of Houston, MO.

Super Stock feature winner was Tony Anglin of Walnut Ridge, AR, followed at the checkered flag by Dee Kelly of Birch Tree, MO, Bill Dixon of Thayer, MO, Todd Kelly of Birch Tree, MO, Chris Moser of Melbourne, AR, Jeff North of Rogersville, MO, Cody Kelly of Birch Tree, Darren Fox of Vanzant, MO, Fred Elliott of Lamar, CO, Donnie Miller of Houston, MO, and Stan Ellison of West Plains.

Rick Cooper of Thornfield, MO, took the Hobby Stock winner's honors for his 1st feature win of the season. Rounding out the top five were Dave Wallace of Theodosia, MO, Chuck Russell and Bobby Bryant, both of West Plains, and Heath Davenport of Yellville, AR.

Balance of the field included: Dexter Frost of West Plains, Wayne DeGase of Squires, MO, Bobby Ratterree of Mtn. Grove, MO, Brian Ratliff of Hardy, AR, Toby Goodwin of Ash Flat, AR, Sam Warren of Gainesville, MO, Chris Ratterree of Mtn. Grove, MO, Allen Hatch of West Plains, Tyson Troutman of Houston, MO and Justin Burrow of Black Rock, AR.

Cruiser feature winner was Jason Johnson of Hardy, AR, taking the lead on lap 5 from a third row starting spot. Rounding out the top five were Shane Hitt of Birch Tree, MO, Andrew Harden and Bill Harden, both of West Plains, and Bobby Skinner of Moody, MO.

Balance of the field included: Donald Collins of West Plains, Jeff Collins of Birch Tree, MO, Dudley Collins of West Plains, Chris Doria of Springfield, MO, Chris Skinner of Moody, MO, Jason Lohner and Michael Lewis, both of West Plains, Scott North of Willow Springs, MO, and Clint Seamans of Imboden, AR.

Brad Sanders of West Plains scored his 1st feature win this year, followed closely by Patrick Reed of Mtn. View, MO, Jerry Doane of West Plains, David Lute of Ash Flat, AR, Steven Simpson and Robert Jamison, both of West Plains, Rodney Smith of Pocahontas, AR, and Cliff Strait of Ash Flat, AR.

Youth Hobby Stock saw the first repeat winner of the season when Ben Ledgerwood of Birch Tree, MO, lead flag to flag with Anthony Carnal of Cabool, MO, taking the 2nd spot trophy. Some of the regular Youth class drivers have moved up to the higher classes this season. It sounds like more are planning to benefit with seat and track time in this entry level class as they get their cars completed.

Next week Air-Evac Life Team will be sponsoring the full weekly racing program at West Plains Motor Speedway. Gates will open at 5 p.m., hotlaps are set for 6:30 p.m., with racing at 8 p.m. Adult admission is $7, senior citizens $4, kids 7-11 $2, and those 6 and under are always free.
