This race was the first in which the O'Reilly SUPR Sprint Cars allowed injected motors and the starting lineup seemed to indicate a fair balance between injected cars and carbureted cars as Terry Vidrine was on the pole with an injected motor and Michael Herrington was alongside him in a carb car but when the green waved in the feature the injected cars led all 25 laps of the feature. Still when the final rundown was reviewed Harold Henderson and Michael Herrington were second and third with carburetor cars.
Terry Vidrine finished fourth ahead of Darryl Wills, on hand all the way from Deer Park, Texas.

The race started with Vidrine setting the pace but the race was slowed on lap one for the only caution of the race was waved after David Kountz became the odd car out as he raced three wide and hopped tires causing enough damage to end his night early. Vidrine continued to lead but Stauffer moved to second and was soon past Vidrine, who would fade back to fourth at the checkers. Stauffer set a fast pace on the big 4/10 mile Deep South Speedway oval turning laps in the 15.8 second range. Stauffer kept that pace going throughout the feature building a half straight away lead.
