Lewisburg’s David Gentry set quick time with a 14.72 clocking (just .04 off the Steel Head LM track record) edging young Tyler Landers (14.80) then held off a determined Jerry Ashley for the win in the Kennith Wessner Ford-Mercury Challenge series feature event.
Flyin’ Byron Micheal followed up his fourth place finish on Friday night at North Alabama with a strong third place run while Friday night’s winner Tim Busha made a valiant charge from his 14th starting position to nab fourth place and maintain the points lead over Michael. "The Dominator" Danny Peoples seemed to struggle trying to find a quick line but like all champions finally figured it out in the last dozen or so circuits and like the "Boaz Bullet" Busha, Danny made a hard late charge to take fifth place over defending "Big 10" champion Jerry Owens and Brandon Brown.
While the finishing order may properly not indicate the level of effort a call goes out for Daniel Miller’s run from 24th to ninth after a spin on lap eight sent the Cullman(AL) native to the rear and while Tyler Landers and Duane Crabbe finished 18th and 22nd respectively it should be noted both were among the quickest cars on the track before mechanical maladies sidelined both racers.
Mark Fields topped Jimmy Tucker and Kelly Hanvey in the eight lap last chance race to earn transfer spots while local upcoming star David Dotson lost his transfer spot on the final turn after a strong effort when David spun into the infield in turns three and four coming for the checkered flag in the last chance race.
