Farmington, MO – (August 28) -- After suffering through throttle problem a few weeks ago, Tim Montgomery, Fredericktown, MO found his way home again. Victory was his on Saturday night at St Francois County Raceway. Starting fourth on the grid alongside bother Joey, Tim had his work cut out for him. Dash winner Joey Boyd, Farmington, MO, jumped top the lead early followed by Jimmy Hurley, Springfield, IL, Joey Moontgomery, Fredericktown, MO, Casey Barnhouse and Keith Burch, both of Farmington, MO. Boyd looked like the car to beat, only to go into turn three very hot, spin his mount, lose the lead and four spots. This opened the door for Joey Montogmery as he took the lead, however the caution flag flew before the lap was complete and Jimmy Hurley was now the new leader. On the restart it was Hurley, Joey Montgomery, Tim Montgomery and Keith Burch up front. On lap 12 the caution came out again for Brian Keen, Ryan Kempin and Danny Long as they got together in turn one. Long had the most damage as he hit the wall and rolled his car. He walked away from the scene and back to the pits. Hurley would again lead the field on the restart with Tim Montgomery providing plenty of heat on the low side. Lap 15 saw caution for the leader Hurley as he made contact with the wall and would be finished for the night. Tim Montgomery grabs top honors followed by Keith Burch, Steve Short, Casey Barnhouse and Jimmy Bridgeman.
Josh and Kathy Campbell were on hand from Fresh and Clean Restrooms for the sponsored night and witnessed Mike Francis win his first feature of the season. Francis, Fredericktown, MO started on the front row outside. His counterpart Billy Smith should have started on the pole, broke the motor in his cars and used the services of Billy Joe Beard for a car to start in the feature. Smith is the point leader. With this change, David Shepard started on the pole position, took the green and the chase began. Francis, Kent Nations and Kasey Nations all in hot pursuit. Adam Parmeley in a new car brought out the first caution for a minor spin. Shepard took off on the restart and was headed off to another part of the track only to make contact with a slower car of Bill LaRue. Both cars were sent to the back. Shepard decided he had enough and pulled in and called it a night. LaRue on the other hand stayed out and finished ninth in the event. Mike Francis the picked up the lead and never looked in the mirror again. Francis was chased across the line by Kent Nations, Jeremy Greenwalt, Brent Thompson and Billy Smith.
Mike Savage came to victory lane for the second week in a row in his black #13 B-Mod. He again found the bottom of the track to be his advantage. Eddie Gross was fast out of the gate as he took the lead into one, with Savage John Bohn, Mike Morgan and Shane Blair close behind. Gross got his car out of shape, moved up slightly off the bottom and Savage took advantage of the opportunity. Savage survived several cautions on his way to the win. In his post race interview he told the crowd that Eddie must have used up his tires early as it was his race to win. We had a second place car, but happy with the win. Savage and Kenny Harris are locked in the battle for a track championship with just a few nights remaining.
Vince Conway started on the point for the Pure Street Feature alongside Jimmy Farris. Farris took the lead on Lap 2 and led the rest of the way for his first win in the division. Conway started out strong and looked as if he had then event in control early, but he pulled out with a hole in his oil pan. With a caution appearing for a driveshaft lost by Robbie Williams, Farris had to deal with point leader and past Champion Chris Boyd for his win. Farris stayed smooth, Boyd kept his pressure on, but could not rattle the winner.
Boyd settled for second, Ray Dodd, Fredericktown finished third in his first outing of the season. Charlie Savage was trying to win for the second straight week but had to be happy with a fourth place run. Rookie contender Kodi Savage brought his car home this week in fifth position.
