Five First-time Venues Included on 33 Race Schedule
By Tom Lathen

(Gilman City, MO) The WORLD Dirt Racing League PolyDome Late Model Series has announced its 2005 schedule. The schedule, the largest in the series’ four-year history, consists of 33 events in seven states and includes five first-time venues for the series.

“We are very excited about this year’s schedule,” commented series founder and director Jim Wilson of Gilman City, Missouri. “Most of the 2004 venues are back on this year’s schedule and we have been able to add a number of race tracks we have never been to.”

“It will be a very busy summer and we’re excited to get things started,” he added.

The 2005 season opens on Saturday night, April 2 with the first of two series appearances at Nebraska Raceway Park in Greenwood, Nebraska. The curtain closes on the 33-race schedule over six months later at Outlaw Motor Speedway in Muskogee, Oklahoma on October 14 and 15.

The two-night event at Outlaw Motor Speedway will be the second of two series stops at the northeastern Oklahoma facility this summer. WORLD Dirt Racing League drivers will invade the first-time Sooner state venue for a similar two-night show on May 20 and 21.

West Liberty Raceway in West Liberty, Iowa will again host four series events in 2005. The first two appearances at West Liberty will be early season affairs, on Saturday April 9 and Monday May 30, with the final appearances being on back-to-back nights in late September. The second annual Al Frieden Memorial will be run on Friday night, September 23, with the Liberty Fall Classic on the schedule the following night.

Two extremely popular WDRL venues, Davenport Speedway in Davenport, Iowa and Freeport Raceway Park in Freeport, Illinois, will host three events this season. In addition to an April 8 date, Davenport Speedway will also host special holiday events on July 4 (Independence Day) and September 5 (Labor Day). The dates at Freeport are April 16, June 4, and August 11.

The two-night Late Model Showdown at Lakeside Speedway in Kansas City, Kansas is another highlight of the 2005 schedule. Capacity crowds and bulging pit areas are again expected for this year’s Nextel Cup weekend events on October 7 and 8.

The annual Pump and Pantry Late Model Nationals at Mid-Nebraska Speedway near Doniphan, Nebraska are being expanded to two nights this year, Friday and Saturday, July 22 and 23. Friday night will feature a 25-lap, $2,500 to win main event, with the Saturday night event featuring a 50-lap, $6,000 to win feature race.

Other facilities returning this season include Superior Speedway in Superior, Wisconsin, which will host two series events this summer, Adams County Speedway in Corning, Iowa, I-35 Speedway in Mason City, Iowa, Echo Valley Speedway in West Union, Iowa, Park Jefferson Speedway in Jefferson, South Dakota, and Deer Creek Speedway in Spring Valley, Minnesota.

In addition to Outlaw Motor Speedway, other first-time WDRL venues include the famed Belleville High Banks in Belleville, Kansas, Hamilton County Speedway in Webster City, Iowa, Buena Vista Raceway in Alta, Iowa, and LaSalle Speedway in LaSalle, Illinois.

The event on the lightning-fast Belleville High Banks is scheduled for July 24, with the show in Webster City, Iowa scheduled for July 20, a day after this year’s stop at I-35 Speedway in Mason City. The series’ first-ever northwest Iowa event, at Buena Vista Raceway, is set for July 29, with the LaSalle Speedway show being scheduled for Sunday, September 4.

“This year’s schedule definitely illustrates how popular the PolyDome Late Model Series has become,” noted Wilson. “We started out with only 12 points races in 2001 and each year since then we have been able to expand the schedule.”

“The response from promoters this year has been fantastic and we feel like we have been able to put together an outstanding schedule. It definitely should be a great year for our series, the drivers, race fans, and our sponsors.”

According to Wilson, one or two additional dates may be added to the schedule.

“We still have a couple of promoters we are working with,” he said. “If we can find workable dates for them, we could end up with a schedule of over 35 races this summer.”
