Farmington, MO -- (October 3) -- Having another great season Tommy Worley, Jr capped it all off by winning the annual running of the Queens Royale at St Francois County Raceway.
Forty-four sprinters signed in the pit gate for this event.
The evening began for the sprints with time trials. Terry McCarl, Altoona, IA, paced the field with the fastest time of 11.333. Second fast goes to Brandon Wimmer in the Rick Ferkel owned machine with a clocking of 11.338. Third fast was A J Bruns at 11.397, fourth quick, Robbie Standridge, Springfield, IL with a time of 11.487 and Tom Dickerman, Cedar Hill, MO completed the top five with a 11.499.
As the feature lined up and did the customary four abreast salute to the fans, a special car paced the field. In honor and rememberance of Dean Adams, Sr, Dustin Adams led the field in the familiar number 4 of Dean Adams, Sr. During intermission a presentation was made to the family and the fans were treated to a little history about the Wall of Fame Driver and friend.
By virtue of winning the dash, Tommy Worley, would start his 30 lap journey from the pole. Starting next to him on the outside, Terry McCarl. The flag came out and these drivers let it rip toward turn one. Worley gained the advantage early and never looked back. Worley was chased out of the gate by McCarl, Joey Montgomery, and Jimmy Hurley. These four pulled away from the field in short order. After a few laps in the were in traffic. Worley navigated the back markers with ease, McCarl and Montgomery having little difficulty as well. In the late stages of the event, three time winner and defending race winner, Joey Montgomery was beginning to close on the leader. Worley had Steve Short in between him and Montgomery. Montgomery tried for several laps to pass. Having problems getting around, Worley was getting away and closer to his first Queens Royale title. Montgomery cleared Short and began to close on Worley. Coming off the final turn Montgomery had his head of steam and was going for the win. However, Worley came this far and was to be denied. The big celebration on the front straight said it all. Congratulation to Tommy Worley, Jr on his win of the Queens Royale. Joey Montgomery finished second, Terry McCarl held on for third, Shane Stewart, who had to come out of the B-Main finished fourth, and Brandon Wimmer takes home fifth place honors. One other point, this entire 30 lap event was ran without the caution flag appearing.
Steve Short, Brandon Wimmer, Jason Hunt and Billy Balog won the heats. Tommy Worley won the Dash. In the alphabet mains, C-Main honors went to Tom Dickerman and B-Main honors went to Shane Stewart.
Modified Division was also on the card this evening. Kenny Rumble, House Springs, MO., came to town looking to pick up where his run from a week ago. He did just that. Brought out the broom and joined the “Hat Trick” Club for 2009.
The start found Rumble, Brent Thompson, Billy Smith and Matt Eaton gunning for the win. All these drivers competed last weekend in the Modified Mania event. All three ran up front for most of that event. They followed it up with another super performance for the fans. Rumble gained control of the field and was only challenged briefly. Three wide racing was not an uncommon sight coming through turns one and two. Each driver knowing one slip would cost them. The only caution came for an incident involving Matt Eaton, Billy Smith and Mike Francis. Eaton was charged with the caution and sent packing to the back of the field. He would wind up finishing seventh.

Pure Street Division came about with the usual “suspects” and they to put on a good show. Chris Boyd, Shane Blair, Eddie Gross, Charlie Savage, and Dave Wofford got out quick and the race was on. Blair would have trouble as he tried to get around Boyd. Gross and Savage were right in the tracks of Blair and wanted a shot at Boyd. Savage finally got around Blair, but it was to little to late. Savage settled for the runner-up position, Blair stayed in there for third, Gross takes fourth place laurels, and “The Wolf” Dave Wofford completes the top five.
This was the final event for the 2009 race season. We would like to thank all the many sponsors, fans, workers and most assuredly the drivers and crews for all there hard work. Our banquet honoring the Championship accomplishments will be at the Potosi Elks on December 12, 2009. Doors open at 4:00. Dinner will be at 5:00 with awards presentatios to follow.
