West Plains Motor Speedway will open it's gates for the 2005 season with two open track practice dates, March 5 and 12. All classes are invited to practice on these dates from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m., and the public is invited to watch free of charge.

The first competitive event is slated for March 17 - 19. The 6th annual Stanfill Memorial Modified Special will again have 3-nights of qualifying action with eight drivers transferring from each round to the $8,000 to win, main event of Saturday night.

A good field of national teams traditionally converge on West Plains for this early season event that boasts a hefty purse of over $40,000. This event is a memorial to Justin Stanfill, who was a local businessman, racer, car owner and WPMS track employee.

The annual Race Car Show is scheduled for March 26, followed by the final opportunity to practice before points races begin. The Race Car Show will be at the Wal-Mart Super Center parking lot from 10 a.m. to 12 noon, and will be sponsored again this year by Coca-Cola and Wal-Mart.

The weekly classes will be IMCA Modified, Super Stock, Hobby Stock, Cruiser, Front Wheel Drive and Youth Hobby. Saturday night points events will begin on April 2, and continue through October 1. No race dates this season will be May 21, July 16 and August 20.

Special events this season will include the 13th annual "Show-Me 100", set for May 26 - 28, where nationally recognized super late model drivers compete for a $39,000 winner's purse and a total pay-out of over $200,000.

Three MARS Late Model events are slated, April 9, June 18 and September 3. The Show-Me Late Models will be making their first ever appearance at WPMS, on July 23.

The 13th annual "Show-Me Championship", a non-sanctioned modified event, is set for August 4 - 6. Super Stocks, Hobby Stock and Cruisers will be featured at the annual Firecracker Weekend Spectacular June 30 - July 2, combined with an extravagant Air-Magic fireworks production.

The ASCS winged sprint cars will make a late season appearance on September 17. And the season will wind up on October 1. Rules or additional information is available by calling the business office at (870) 994-7447 or on the track website at www.westplains-speedway.com .
