(March 28, 2006) - After moving atop the O'Reilly American Sprint Cars on Tour championship point standings this past weekend, Hooks, TX, ace Gary Wright is set to vie for the honor of winning the inaugural event for the all-new ASCS Mid-South Region at I-30 Speedway in Little Rock, AR, this Saturday night.
Wright will be among a strong field of more than 30 competitors that are expected for Saturday night's ASCS Mid-South Region debut atop the high-banked, quarter-mile clay oval, with action slated to get under way at 7:30 p.m.
Wright will be one of several National Tour competitors that will take the opportunity to tune-up for the O'Reilly ASCoT event slated for I-30 Speedway on Saturday night, April 29. The National Tour is at Poplar Bluff Speedway in Poplar Bluff, MO, the night before on April 28.
Although shut out of victory lane through seven feature events, Wright's consistency has moved him atop the ASCoT point standings. Wright, with four top-five feature runs and six top tens, holds a narrow eleven point lead over Rookie of the Year contender Nick Smith, with 2003 ASCS National champion Travis Rilat in third.
Wright and Rilat are both expected for Saturday night's I-30 Speedway showdown, along with other ASCoT shoes including Oklahoma City winner Jason Johnson, Houston Raceway Park victor Sean McClelland, Jan Howard and Sam Hafertepe, Jr.
Among the other top contenders expected on Saturday night are A.G. Rains, Dale Howard, Josh Howard, Mike Ward, Eddie Gallagher, Lewis Jenkins, Jr., Joe Young, Cody Gardner, Justin Sturch, Rick Pringle and defending I-30 Speedway track champion Pete Butler.

In its 15th year of sanctioning Sprint Car racing in the United States, the American Sprint Car Series will present approximately 180 nights of racing in 2006 including the National Tour and its Regional Tours, including Gulf South, Mid-South, Midwest, Northern Plains, Patriot Sprint Group, Rocky Mountain, Sooner, Southern and Sprints on Dirt.
The inaugural season for the ASCS Mid-South Region currently consists of ten events at eight different tracks throughout Arkansas, Mississippi, Missouri and Louisiana.
