Kevin Montgomery Peoria, ARIZ (April 7, 2012) - Four time and defending ASCS Southwest region champion Rick Ziehl entered Saturday's 2nd Annual Eggstravaganza at Canyon Speedway Park trailing in the 2012 Southwest points chase.
Drawing the pole position for the 25 lap ASCS Southwest main event, Ziehl immediately checked out aboard the Bay Hayes Motorsports and Ei22 sponsored no. 20z.
A pair of late race stoppages grew the possibility of a challenge, but Ziehl sped both away, cruising to his 1st ASCS Southwest victory of the 2012 campaign and keeping Southwest loot out of the Grand Canyon State for the fifth time in 5 events thus far in the campaign.
Bob Ream Jr. crossed the finish line with runner up honors, with Mike Martin taking the show position with J.T. Imperial and Josh Pelkey rounding out the top five.
DJ Wood capitalized on lapped traffic to make his way to the front from deep in the field to capture the 25-lap IMCA Modified feature while "Racin" Jason Noll over came earlier mechanical woes and was able to make a spectacular drive from the sixth row crossing the stripe just behind Wood.
A hard charging Cody Center filled the podium with Steve Stultz and JC Parmeley completing the top five.
Matt Martinez held off Chris McCurdy and Jody Henderson to take the CSP Pure Stock opener while "The Outlaw" Matt Lundy gunned down his first ever Challenge Cup Sprint Car win.
John Romero was victorious in Bomber Mania with Greg Loper topping a huge field of Dwarf Cars.

Canyon Speedway will return to action with the 2nd Annual Canyon Clash as the ASCS Non Wing Sprint Cars return to the Peoria, Arizona 1/3-mile clay oval. The wingless dare devils will be joined by the ASCS2 Micros, CSP Pure Stocks, X-Mods and Southwest Modlites for a spectacular night of racing. The Clash begins when general admission tickets go on sale at 5pm for only $15 for adults, Senior and Military $13, Juniors 7-12 $6 and CHILDREN 6 and UNDER are free. Racing will begin promptly at 7:00pm.
Season and Suite Access Passes will allow race fans to get all the action at an unheard of low cost. Season Passes are on sale for only $249 and $199 for Seniors, Students and Military thus dropping admission prices to under $10 per event. Suite Access Passes will allow race fans the opportunity to enjoy the races from Canyon Speedways VIP Suites for only $349
