BEAR LAKE, PA – Aug. 19, 2009 – Chub Frank is hoping that visits to a couple tracks where he’s enjoyed great success will get him back on track after a frustrating Mid-Atlantic swing with the World of Outlaws Late Model Series.
After scoring just a single top-10 finish over three consecutive nights of action in his home region, the 47-year-old standout from Bear Lake, Pa., starts four straight evenings of WoO LMS competition this Thursday night (Aug. 20) at Muskingum County Speedway in Zanesville, Ohio.
But while Chub is familiar with Muskingum County, it’s the next two tracks on his schedule that he’s eyeing up. The $20,000-to-win ‘Buckeye 100’ will run on Fri day and Saturday nights (Aug. 21-22) at K-C Raceway in Alma, Ohio – a track at which Chub pocketed $50,000 for winning the 2007 Dirt Track World Championship 100 – and the tour returns to one of his old hometracks, Eriez Speedway in Hammett, Pa., on Sunday night (Aug. 23).
“We could use some good runs so hopefully running at some tracks we know pretty well will get us going,” said Chub. “We’ve had success at K-C and, of course, Eriez in the past and hopefully we’ll find something that works at both tracks again.”
Chub is especially bullish on the rescheduled event at Eriez. He was sitting third-fastest on the qualifying chart before rain arrived to postpone the one-third-mile oval’s WoO LMS show on its original date of July 26. Though Chub will have to qualify again with Sunday’s program restarting from scratch, he’s confident he can pick up where he left off with his Corry Rubber/Lake Shore Paving/Hino Toyota/All-Star Performance/Corry Laser/Slavic Corporation/Custom Race Engines/GW Performance Chevrolet Impala SS Rocket Chassis No. 1*.
The first WoO LMS swing of the month of August wasn’t kind to Chub. He scored a seventh-place finish in the 50-lap A-Main on Aug. 14 at Bedford (Pa.) Speedway,20but that was sandwiched by a quiet 12th-place run in the 40-lapper on Aug. 13 at Grandview Speedway in Bechtelsville, Pa., and a 20th-place effort (one lap down) in the 50-lap feature on Aug. 15 at Hagerstown (Md.) Speedway.
Chub, who sits eighth in the current WoO LMS points standings, entered last weekend’s tripleheader with some momentum after enjoying two strong runs close to home the previous week. He registered a pair of third-place finishes, on Aug. 6 in a ULMS event at McKean County Raceway in East Smethport, Pa., and Aug. 7 in a UFO show at Lernerville Speedway in Sarver, Pa.
