ELBRIDGE, NY (June 1) – Happy 50th birthday to "The King of the Outlaws."
Steve Kinser will be half a century old Wednesday when the World of Outlaws Sprint Series races at Rolling Wheels Raceway Park.
The World of Outlaws Sprint Series points leader has been synonymous with the series for more than half of his life, winning 18 of its 26 championships, and enters Tuesday’s event at Lebanon Valley Speedway with a 115-point advantage over 2001 champion Danny Lasoski.
"The King of the Outlaws" has won "A" Features on his birthday twice – at Cayuga County Fair Speedway in 1987 and at Rolling Wheels Raceway Park in 1992. Kinser passed pole-sitter Paul McMahan early in the 11th lap and beat Donny Schatz under the checkered flag by a straightaway for the eighth victory at Rolling Wheels last May 28th.
Kinser opened the World of Outlaws Sprint Series’ Eastern Tour by winning the Commonwealth Clash at Lernerville Speedway a week ago. After finishing second in both feature races at Williams Grove Speedway and crashing out of the lead with two laps remaining at Hagerstown Speedway, "The King of the Outlaws" drove his #11 Quaker State Maxim to victory Sunday at Grandview Speedway.
"We’ve been pretty good all through this swing," Kinser said. "We’ve actually had a good enough car to win just about every night, but I just gave one away at Hagerstown. We really can’t complain about the way the swing has gone, except for messing up at Hagerstown.
"We’ve run pretty well all year long, with the exception of about a three-week stretch there. The Pennsylvania guys race you hard. That’s the way it’s always been and the way it always will be. I enjoy coming out here and racing. They have good race fans here."
Jason Meyers has been the World of Outlaws Sprint Series’ most consistent driver the last month. The 25-year-old racer from Clovis, CA, had driven the #14 Elite Landscaping Maxim into the top eight in 10 straight main events before finishing 16th at Grandview Speedway Sunday. He started the streak with a victory at the Talladega Short Track and also won the Freedom 40 at K-C Raceway.
The World of Outlaws Sprint Series has attracted 260 drivers in its first 20 events this season. Thirty-seven have won Heat Races, 22 have won Dash Races, 15 have set quick time and 13 have won Feature Races.
