CARTERSVILLE, GA – The StormPay.com Dirt Late Model Series National Tour will travel to Wheel, TN this Saturday night for the $3,000-to-win “Duel At The Duck” 50 at Duck River Speedway. For the defending StormPay.com Dirt Late Model Series National Champion David Gentry of nearby Lewisburg, TN, it is the homecoming he is looking to build on.

The StormPay.com DLMS competitors will have an opportunity to tune up for Saturday night’s race on Friday night at Duck River Speedway in a special $1,000-to-win weekly event using StormPay.com DLMS rules.

Gentry had seven wins on his way to the National Championship last season, and one of those came at his home track, affectionately know as “The Duck.” That win was special to Gentry for two reasons: A win in front of his home town fans, friends, and family made the title even more special, and it sent him off on a winning streak that netted him six of those seven wins.

Last season, Gentry battled with Shanon Buckingham of Morristown, TN and Ronnie Johnson of Chattanooga, TN for the championship. This season, “Lewisburg Lightning” is having to go toe-to-toe with Frank Ingram of Woodstock, GA, Derrick Rainey of Power Springs, GA, Jay Blair of Angie, LA, and Chip Brindle of Chatsworth, GA in defense of his title.

The faces are different, but the competition is just as tough. Gentry comes into the Duel At The Duck 50 with a 10-point lead over Ingram. In the first 14 races of the 2007 StormPay.com DLMS season, Gentry has one win, eight top five finishes, 11 top ten finishes, and one fast time award. It’s déjà vu for Gentry, as he had one win last season when he came to The Duck.

Will history repeat itself? That’s why they line them up and race. Gentry took over the point lead from Ingram on July 21 at East Alabama Motor Speedway based on a post-race technicality, rather than on the race track. Ingram finished second to race winner William Thomas of Phenix City, AL, but crossed the scales light, and was penalized to the 25th finishing position.

It was an honest mistake by a good race team. Ingram’s crew put 20 gallons of fuel in the car instead of 25 gallons. Coming back from a downfall is the mark of a championship team, and the second-generation driver certainly has that capability. Ingram has two wins, eight top five finishes, and 12 top ten finishes in 14 starts. For Ingram, staying with Gentry at his home track will be a true test.

Rainey is a driver that has come on strong in recent races, having picked up his first win of the season on July 20 at Penton Raceway in Penton, AL. Rainey is third in the StormPay.com DLMS pints chase, just 34 points behind Gentry. In addition to his win, Rainey has ten top five finishes and one fast time honor in 14 starts.

Blair missed the first race of the season in January, but was quick to get into the championship battle with a win in Round 2 at Columbus Speedway in Columbus, MS on January 27. Even though the former SUPR Late Model Champion has spotted his title competitors the first race, Blair has eight top five finishes, 11 top ten finishes, one pole award, and is only 57 points from the top spot.

Brindle is the top Rookie of the Year candidate in the series this season, and is fifth in the point standings. Brindle came out of the box quickly this season, winning the season opener on January 7 at Talladega Short Track in Eastaboga, AL, and taking a second win in Round 4 at East Bay Raceway Park in Tampa, FL on February 23.

Another Rookie of the Year candidate looking forward to the Duel At The Duck is Robert Stutts of Murfreesboro, TN. Stutts might be a rookie driver on the StormPay.com Dirt Late Model Series National Tour, but he is no rookie at The Duck. The former Late Model Track Champion at The Duck is currently eighth in the StormPay.com DLMS National points with five top ten finishes.

Also entered for the Duel At The Duck 50 are StormPay.com DLMS regulars Chris Tays of Corinth, MS, Jeff Fields of Aragon, GA, Matthew Turner of Dawsonville, GA, Jim Till of Greenville, AL, Rusty Hoge of Ooltewah, TN, Bill Flowers of Bremen, GA, Curtis Cline of Douglasville, GA, and Jimmy Kay of Taylorsville, GA.

The StormPay.com DLMS cars and stars will compete in Time Trials, Qualifying Races, and the 50-lap $3,000-to-win main event. Duck River Speedway is located just north of Highway 64 in Wheel, TN on Haskins Chapel Road. For more information call 931-684-8200, or visit the track web site at www.duckriverspeedway.com.
