Haubstadt, IN - May 10, 2018 - Saturday night May 12th Tri-State Speedway will be presenting the 2018 ultra live edition of “Midwest Madness.” The Hoosier Tire Midwest Sprint Car Series will share the billing with the Morrow Brothers Ford Midwest Open Wheel Association.
The result can only be described as the ultimate in Sprint Car experience Midwestern style.
Fans will see a doubleheader program paying homage to the more traditional MSCS non-wing sprint cars and welcoming the high flying MOWA winged sprints. Both are powered by 410 cubic inch engines that will be turning the quarter mile Haubstadt, IN, track in the 12 or 13 seconds range.
MSCS and MOWA will compete in separate complete programs which includes preliminaries capped by the feature events. The MSCS feature will pay $2,500 to win! With some added preparation the more versatile drivers could consider racing with both racing series on Saturday. Another option would be to try their hand Sunday when the World of Outlaws are scheduled to return to Haubstadt to make-up their rained out April event. It should be an interesting weekend for fans and race teams!
Everyone is reminded that the racing both nights will follow a different time line than normal. The pit gate will open at 2 o’clock in the afternoon. The grandstands will open at 2:30 Central Daylight Time. Warm ups begin at 5 o’clock. The MSCS pill draw usually closes 45 minutes before group qualifying. Racing will follow at
6:30 P.M. Fans should plan to arrive extra early so as to not miss any of the action. The speedway management will be on target to get everyone out and on the way home early in the face of the work week ahead.
The MSCS Series has completed two of the three races scheduled this spring. There are still 16 races left on the 2018 schedule. There are 35 licensed drivers and a total of 40 drivers have seen action.
This weekend could be the first opportunity for other drivers to compete. Temporary permits to race will be available. The opportunity to race and be competitive certainly exists! Carson Short was the winner at the “Midwest Madness” event last year.
The Midwest Sprint Car Series Points Title Chase is underway. The tip top of the standings has not changed this year. Kevin Thomas Jr. has won both features held and also his heat race both nights.
Thus far he has been invincible. The next five drivers in the standings are Robert Ballou, Carson Short, Brandon Mattox, Donny Brackett, and Aric Gentry.
Racing is a sport of opportunity. Drivers have been frequenting Tri-State Speedway for over 60 years. The speedway will be hosting MSCS sprint car racing nine times this season. This is the first of the six races that are not also co-sanctioned. The welcome mat is out as usual and it promises to be checkered for someone!
