It’s been a cold, long winter. Inside motorsports garages spread over the two state area, race car drivers, many experienced but some taking the challenge for the first time, have been building their wintertime race car projects with grinders grinding, welders flaming, metals clanging and paint spraying. Now the real results from the efforts they have put forth will be discovered this Saturday afternoon at Central Missouri Speedway in Warrensburg.

The first of three consecutive weeks of test and tune will take place with the first two rounds set for the daytime. The final session, on Saturday, April 19th, will be under the lights.

This Saturday, the gates will swing open for the first time this season at 11 am. Action on the track for the four race car classes, Mighty Modifieds, Limited Late Models, WOFC Sprint Cars and Street Stocks, will start at 1 pm.

Admission will be free to all fans wanting to view the event from the grandstands. The concession building will be open, and only the back straightaway stands will be used.

From the record-breaking registrations back in January, a lot of rookie and new drivers are listed to compete on the “Super-Fast Excitement Track” this season. In the ‘Mighty Modifieds’, new entries include Michael McCoy, Hamilton, Jeffrey Russell, Spring Hill, Ks, William Ennis, Pleasant Hill, Donald Danner, Odessa, Rick Bradley, Belton, Don Kephart, Kingsville, Andy Pfeffle, Blue Springs and showing up with a Modified this year after being the Street Stock C.A.R.B. ‘Most Improved Driver’ last season, Holden’s Doug Warren.

New Street Stockers are Blake Koetting, California (Mo), Michael Adkinson, Centerview, Kelly Holt, Raymore, Dan Colhour, Warrensburg and Fred King, Independence. Fresh Limited Late Model hot shoes include Jim Burge, Sedalia, Kyle Judd, Knob Noster, Gary Billings, Jr., Kansas City, Charlie Sutton, Warsaw, Buddy Blain, Kansas City, Ks, Daren Rapp, Clinton, David Finkemeier, Odessa and a third generation driver from Higginsville, Derek Nevels.

The first night of true competition is carded as the “Sunoco Racing Fuels/ KOKO Radio 2003 Season Opener” on Saturday night, April 26th.
