Gaffney, SC –The biggest O’Reilly Southern All Stars EAST weekend to date will see the largest purse of the 4 race weekend this Sunday at Cherokee Speedway in Gaffney, SC. The $10,000 to win Labor Day Sunday racing tradition has become even more prestigious as this will be the 2nd year the race will carry the Cherokee Speedway Hall of Fame banner. The first race honored local legends Billy Scott, Freddy Smith, Stick Elliot, Mike Duvall and Al Tessner as the inaugural inductees.
A stellar field is expected to be on hand to fight 75 laps for bragging rights and the $10,000 prize. Drivers will have to be on top of their game as the O’Reilly SAS EAST race last weekend at Cherokee had many teams guessing what tire compound to run on the 3/8 mile. Chris ‘Smokey’ Madden and team chose wisely and would grab the win in dominating fashion.
Defending O’Reilly Southern All Stars EAST Champion Casey Roberts will lead the point contenders into this event with a forty-four point lead over Gray Court, SC’s Chris Madden. Madden has been the hot driver on the tour, winning four of the last five races including the last three in a row. Petey Ivey sits in third position followed by 4th place Johnny Pursley, who also leads the Cruise with the Champions Rookie of the Year standings. Two-time O’Reilly SAS EAST Champion Dennis “Rambo” Franklin sits fifth in points headed into the long weekend. Monk Gulledge is sixth, followed by Randle Chupp, Kelly Thacker, Anthony Sanders and Jeff Smith. Standout drivers such as Mike Duvall, Ricky Weeks, Furman Parton, Chris Ferguson, Dillon Wood, Travis Pennington and Ethan Hunter and more are expected to be on hand at Cherokee this weekend.
Sunday’s support classes will include fan favorite Limited Sportsman, Renegade, Super Stock 4 and the exciting Pure Stock division. Grandstands open Sunday at 5:00. Drivers Meeting will begin at 7:00. Racing will begin promptly after drivers meeting. By running 4 support divisions, the speedway will move the show along to get traveling fans home as early as possible on the Holiday weekend.
