COLUMBUS, MS - Friday and Saturday night, April 15th and 16th, Magnolia Motor Speedway in Columbus, MS will begin its second season of operation with the 2nd Annual Cellular South Governor's Cup presented by Coca-Cola. The event feature Super Late Models competing for $10,000-to-win in a 60-lap showdown at the Johnny Stokes-prepared 3/8ths mile oval.
Popular Mississippi young gun "Lugnut" Rodney Wing was crowned Governor's Cup champion last spring in the first ever race at the state-of-the-art racing facility. Many of the region's top racing stars can be expected to compete for the $10,000 winner's share.
Friday night feature pole qualifying and qualifying heat races, with B-Mains and the 60-lap governor's Cup being run on Saturday night. There is also an open practice scheduled for Thursday night, April 14th. Other divisions will also be competing for big money as well as the Super Late Models. Open Wheel Modified will compete for $1,500-to-win, Late Model Stocks will race for $1,000-to-win, Street Stocks will chase after a $600 winner's share, Mini Stocks will race for $500 to win, and Two-Person Cruisers will try to capture a $400 winning prize. All local divisions will draw for qualifying heats on Friday night, then run B-Mains and features on Saturday night.
An early practice and "open house" for the fans is scheduled for Friday night, April 8th.
