LOCUST GROVE AR. The early season special events spectacular will continue this weekend at the Batesville Motor Speedway. It’s the Open Wheel Modified’s turn, as the Larry Shaw Race Cars presents the Bad Boy Mowers 11th Annual Mid-America Modified Championship will take to the track this weekend.

The top Open Wheel Modified drivers that compete on a weekly basis at the Batesville Motor Speedway will take on some of the top touring drivers in the nation, as around one hundred Open Wheel Modifieds are expected for the event.

On Wednesday, March 21, all competitors will have an opportunity to practice on the high banked 3/8 mile oval. All spectators will be allowed to enter the grandstand free. There will be a $15.00 pit pass. The practice will run from 7:00pm until 9:30.

On Thursday, March 22, the first phase of qualifying for Saturday’s 50 Lap main event will begin. All cars will take two timed laps, which will determine the line-ups for Friday’s heat events. Pit gates are scheduled to open at 3:00pm. Hot laps will be at 6:00pm, with time trials slated for 8:00pm. Grandstand admission will be $5.00, with children 5 years of age and under admitted free. Pit passes will be $25.00.

On Friday, March 23, the all important heat races will be run. These heats will determine the top spots for Saturday’s feature event. Pit gates are slated to open at 4:00pm, with the first heat event scheduled for 7:00pm. Adult Grandstand admission will be $10.00, children 6-11 will be $5.00, and 5 and under free. Pit passes once again are $25.00.

On Saturday, March 24, the finishing touches will be put on the feature event. The final cars will be added to the field with the Last Chance Qualifying races. Following that, the 24 cars that qualified for the main event will go 50 Laps, with the winner taking home a check for $8,000. The minimum pay-day for those 24 qualifiers is $1,000, and the total purse for the feature event is over $40,000. Adult Grandstand admission for Saturday is $15.00, with children 6-11 admitted for $5.00. Children 5 and under are once again free. Saturday’s pit passes are $30.00. Pit gates are set to open at 4:00pm, and the first Last Chance Qualifier is set for 7:00pm.

Grandstands are scheduled to open at 5:30 each night. The entry fee for this event is $200, as the early pre-entry deadline has elapsed. Jared Landers of Benton is the defending champion. Other past winners are Kelly Shryock, Klint Pursley, Wayne Brooks, Randy Zimmerman, Mark Noble, Mark Norris, Scott Drake and Wendell Wallace.
