The much anticipated Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series three race weekend in the Midwest is just about set to begin. With over $140,000 in prize money up for grabs the series heads to three of the premier dirt track facilities in the country.

On Friday Night, July 21 the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series heads to the historic Knoxville Raceway in Knoxville, IA for the "Iowa Telecom Summer Classic." On Saturday Night, July 22 another first time visit to the "Diamond of Dirt Tracks" the Lucas Oil Speedway in Wheatland, MO and to conclude the busy weekend the stars of the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series take to the track at the Tri-City Speedway in Pontoon Beach, IL at the Gundaker family promoted facility just outside of St. Louis. All three events will feature Comp Cams Time Trials, PBM Performance Products Heat Races, Mason Racin' Rebel Shock Dyno and Penske Shocks B-Mains and a $10,000 to win and $700 to start 50 Lap A-Main. All three shows will be taped by SPEED Channel as the races will be shown on a date and time to be announced.

The visit to Knoxville on Friday Night will mark a first for the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series. While Knoxville hosts the Lucas Oil Late Model Knoxville Nationals at the end of September this will be the first sanctioned points race for the series at Knoxville. Since Knoxville Raceway began racing weekly back in 1954 this will only be the 36th ever Late Model Stock Car race at the facility as the track has predominately featured sprint cars on its weekly schedule. After Knoxville a trip down to the Show-Me State of Missouri awaits the fans and competitors to the Lucas Oil Speedway in Wheatland, MO. The track formerly known as Wheatland Raceway was purchased by Forrest Lucas and the facility itself has been completely redone with modern amenities. The Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series will then head east to the Tri City Speedway in Pontoon Beach, IL for the "Miller Lite" Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series event. It will be the second time in two years the series has visited the track located just across the Mississippi River from St. Louis. Last year Earl Pearson, Jr. took his first series win of the season on his way to the 2005 series championship.

With 19 events already in the books this season the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series has had 12 different event winners. Earl Pearson, Jr. of Jacksonville, FL the defending Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series National Champion holds the top spot currently in the chase for this year's title. Pearson heads into this weekend with a 175 point lead over Don O'Neal of Martinsville, IN. Donnie Moran of Dresden, OH sits third in the points followed by Matt Miller of Waterville, OH and Scott James from Lawrenceburg, IN.

The rest of the top ten after the most recent events in Alabama and Mississippi include Steve Casebolt of Richmond, IN, Freddy Smith of Seymour, TN, Tim Dohm of Cross Lanes, WV, Michael England of Glasgow, KY and Brady Smith of Solon Springs, WI.

Casebolt leads the rookie points followed by England, Brady Smith, Corey Conley of Wellsburg, WV and Damon Eller of Crumpler, NC.
