14th Annual Comp Cams Topless 100

LOCUST GROVE AR. Scott Bloomquist of Mooresburg, Tennessee topped the sixty six cars that attempted to qualify for the 14th Annual Comp Cams Topless 100 Friday night at the Batesville Speedway.
Bloomquist, the only driver below the 14 second mark, won the sixth heat, and will join Jimmy Mars, Chub Frank, Terry Phillips, Billy Moyer, and Darren Miller in tomorrow’s pole dash to determine the first three rows in the 100 Lap main event worth $45,000.
Twelve others cars qualified for Saturday’s main event. The remaining 48 will go into three Last Chance Qualifiers, with six more being added to the field.
Jamie Elam lead the first heat race, but Jimmy Mars took control on the first lap and would not be headed the rest of the way. Elam fell to second, with Stacy Taylor third. Taylor moved past Elam, then Brian Birkhofer took the third spot on lap seven. It wasn’t long before Birkhofer got past Taylor for second. Rick Eckert moved to fourth on lap ten, but could not catch Taylor for the final transfer spot.
Scott Dedwylder was the surprise of the second head, and lead the first sixteen laps of the race. Chub Frank moved to second spot on lap two, but was unable to cut into Dedwylder’s lead for the first 10 laps. Frank was finally able to make up ground, and made the move to first, under Dedwylder in turn four on lap 17. Dedwylder hung on for second and Dale McDowell grabbed the final transfer spot.
Clint Smith’s teammate Johnny Cloer headed the third heat for fourteen laps before Terry Phillips was finally able to overtake the Georgia racer. Cloer moved to the lead, past Rick Rickman on the opening lap. Rickman faded out of contention early, as Phillips took over second on lap two. Wendell Wallace and Bill Frye were soon third and fourth, and the pair would duel for the rest of the heat. Phillips finally was able to work past Cloer in turn four on lap 14 to take over the lead. Cloer held on to second, and Wallace nosed out Frye for the final transfer spot.
Garrett Durrett headed the fourth heat early on, but a pair of cautions aided Billy Moyer in capturing the race. A lap three caution bunched the field, and Clint Smith was able to move past Durrett for the lead, while Moyer used the caution to jump into third on the restart. Moyer and Shane Clanton swapped the third spot over the next several laps, but a lap nine caution bunched the field again. Moyer blew by Durrett on the restart, and then drove under Smith for the lead in turn four. Clanton was able to get around Durrett for the final transfer spot on lap 10.
Darren Miller dominated the fifth heat. Jack Sullivan took the initial lead, but Miller powered past Sullivan into the lead on lap three. A lap six caution for debris bunched the field. Denny Eckrich and Shannon Babb moved to the transfer spots on the restart. Miller was pacing the field by a half straightaway by lap 10. A lap 14 caution gave Babb the opportunity to drive by Eckrich for second.
Jeff Taylor took the initial lead in the sixth heat and lead Tim McCreadie and Bloomquist. Traffic allowed Bloomquist to move past McCreadie for second on lap 10. Bloomquist wasted little time running down Taylor, and drove past him for the lead on lap 12. Taylor hung on to second and McCreadie claimed third for the final transfer spot.
Jeremy Payne lead all 25 laps of the $600 to win Modified feature event. Jason Brock, Michael Robinson, Chase Allen, and Brian Brock rounded out the top five.

14th Annual Comp Cams Topless 100

LOCUST GROVE AR. Scott Bloomquist of Mooresburg, Tennessee topped the sixty six cars that attempted to qualify for the 14th Annual Comp Cams Topless 100 Friday night at the Batesville Speedway.
Bloomquist, the only driver below the 14 second mark, won the sixth heat, and will join Jimmy Mars, Chub Frank, Terry Phillips, Billy Moyer, and Darren Miller in tomorrow’s pole dash to determine the first three rows in the 100 Lap main event worth $45,000.

Rick Eckert moved to fourth on lap ten, but could not catch Taylor for the final transfer spot.

Chub Frank moved to second spot on lap two, but was unable to cut into Dedwylder’s lead for the first 10 laps. Frank was finally able to make up ground, and made the move to first, under Dedwylder in turn four on lap 17. Dedwylder hung on for second and Dale McDowell grabbed the final transfer spot.
