LEXINGTON, KY--The 2004 O'Reilly Auto Parts NARA Battle of the Bluegrass DirtCar Series presented by Arizona Sport Shirts has announced a 23 race schedule for the upcoming season with two more dates to be confirmed in the future. The series beginning its third year of sanctioning dirt late model racing welcomes O'Reilly Auto Parts as the title sponsor for the series. O'Reilly Auto Parts currently has 19 store locations throughout the Bluegrass State of Kentucky. The series will host events that will total nearly $400,000 in 2004 as the series returns to several of its most popular venues over the past two years. The 2004 series champion will receive $10,000. The O'Reilly NARA Battle of the Bluegrass DirtCar Series will be hosting $3000 and $5000 to win events throughout the 2004 season. Eddie Carrier, Jr and Mike Marlar are the first two series champions with Bobby Wolter, Jr and Mike Marlar the first two series Rookie of the Year winners. The 2004 Rookie of the Year program will be announced in the coming weeks.
The series will also be hosting the following special events during the 2004 season at Florence (KY) Speedway with the "Night before the Spring 50" on April 9 and the annual "Ralph Latham Memorial Race" on June 5. Other special events include the first sanction by O'Reilly NARA Battle of the Bluegrass of the popular "Butterball Wooldridge Memorial Race" at the Richmond (KY) Raceway on July 17. At the Ponderosa (KY) Speedway the track will host the Hugh "Junebug" Rowland Memorial and the Pete Abell Memorial Race both sanctioned by O'Reilly NARA Battle of the Bluegrass. Other special events to be sanctioned by the Lexington, KY based group includes the "June Jam" and "Spring Sizzler" at the Bluegrass Speedway in Bardstown, KY and the return of the "Border Wars '04" in Tennessee.
Two new tracks already announced on the 2004 schedule will be first time visits to the Paducah International Raceway in Paducah, KY on Friday Night, May 14 and Tazewell Motor Speedway in Tazewell, TN on July 31. As the schedule stands right now the series will pay four visits to the home of the Dirt Track World Championship the Bluegrass Speedway in Bardstown, KY, three visits each to the Richmond Raceway in Richmond, KY and the Legendary Ponderosa Speedway in Junction City, KY, with two appearances each at the Florence Speedway in Union, KY, the Clinton County Speedway in Alpha, KY, the Crossville's USA Raceway in Crossville, TN, the 201 Speedway in Sitka, KY and the Soggy Bottom Speedway in Morgantown, KY with one appearance each at the Paducah International Raceway in Paducah, KY and Tazewell Motor Speedway in Tazewell, TN.
