Driver's Seat Publisher - The annual Driver's Seat awards for 2005 have just been released and Mike Francis of Fredericktown, Mo. has been named the "Driver of the Year." The 37-year-old Francis posted his best season ever in the seat of a modified by claiming track championships at both the St. Francois County Raceway and at the Malden Speedway.
The 2005 Driver's Seat "Rookie of the Year" goes to Mark Todd of Jackson, Mo. In his first season in his #31 Pure Street car, Todd not only established himself as one of the prominent drivers of the class he also ran away with the track championship at the St. Francois County Raceway. Todd finished the season more than 130 points ahead of the second place finisher in the class.
The Driver's Seat's humanitarian award, the "Glen Miller Memorial" award this year goes to Jason Shipman of Womack and David Boyd of Desloge for their work in organizing the racing community to send non-perishable items to Hurricane Katrina victims. Then after collecting the items, Shipman covered all expenses, including providing the truck, driver and fuel, to send the items to the Gulf Coast.
The Driver's Seat's "Promoter of the Year" award goes to Cory and Jill Franklin of the St. Francois County Raceway in Farmington for their outstanding work during the 2005 racing season.
All of the award winners will be receiving plaques compliments of the Driver's Seat. Congratulation to all of this year's winners.
