Last weekend was full of weather-related issues for ULMA drivers as the third-year association began its 2009 season with a competitive night of sanctioned action at Callaway Raceway in Fulton, Missouri. Unfortunately, the rains came in after Friday night and for the second year in a row, the ULMA Spring Challenge event scheduled for last Saturday at 24 Raceway in Moberly was again won by Mother Nature. However, there is good news on the horizon; 24 Raceway and ULMA have agreed to reschedule the event for Saturday, May 9th with the exact same details as previously announced. The event will pay $1,000 to win and $150 to start. Look for more press information leading up to the event weekend. There are no other ULMA-sanctioned events on the May 9th date.

After week one, a brief look at the early standings finds multiple-time ULMA feature winner Jeff Schlup of California, Missouri sitting atop the leader board with a slim lead over long-time racer Danny 'the Missile' Lorton from Moberly. Bob Test, Jake Williams, Robbie Test, Dwight Niehoff, and Blake David follow closely behind the leaders based on their performances at Callaway raceway. Action resumes this Friday at Callaway, check out the track's Web site at www.callawayraceways.com.

Butler Motor Speedway (BMS) in Butler, Missouri kicks off its season this Friday night. Member drivers will earn championship points at BMS this year, the first time BMS and ULMA have teamed up. ULMA membership is required to earn ULMA points; however, late model competitors at BMS are not required to be ULMA members. For track-specific registration and late model rules, be sure to visit the BMS Web site at www.butlermotorspeedway.webs.com. New members may sign up for membership by contacting association officials present at the track this Friday evening.

Lucas Oil Speedway hosts its first weekly racing event this Saturday night, April 25th. Competing drivers in the late model division at Lucas Oil Speedway are required to join ULMA for the 2009 season. This is the third consecutive year that ULMA cars have been so warmly welcomed by the professional staff of Lucas Oil Speedway. Officials will also be on hand at the track to field questions and to register drivers. Complete track information is easily accessible at www.lucasoilspeedway.com.

Rounding out an action-packed weekend of points-earning events and racing action is Valley Speedway in Grain Valley, Missouri, which is billing its early season racing as the Spirit of Spring Series. Association President, Kevin Coyne is scheduled to compete and conduct ULMA business this weekend. Registration is available on spot for ULMA. Drivers will want to ensure their cars are compliant with the speedway's muffler rules. Valley Speedway is the sole ULMA-sanctioned track in the Greater Kansas City Metro area. The track's Web site is www.valleyspeedway.com.

The member-operated association is doing its part in keeping weekly late model racing alive throughout Missouri race facilities. Additional business partners are needed for the 2009 season and may contact any of the board of director members using information on the ULMA Web site at www.ulmaracing.com or talking with an official at any of the tracks.
