3.1 Intercooled Turbo

I have a buddy with a 94 cavvy with a 3.1 and a five speed in it and i came across like a 90 91 92 grand prix with a 3.1 intercooled turbo with a automatic tranny. And we are wantin to do a motor swap and i was wonder if anyone had any idea if we need to change wiring harness too. And if you all think we should keep the manual or put the auto from the turbo motor in the car. Please hit me back because we are going to start this project in like 2 or 3 weeks. And also would anyone know how to get rid of the speed limiter on the cavvy.
 
You will have to change all the wiring ..ecm..radiator..ect. I beleive the cavalier and grand prix had different subframes as well and i dont know for sure..if it will even fit. If you swap transmissions..and it fits...be sure to change driveaxles. They are different as well.
 
The easiest way to do it, is not to do it!! I seen a v-8 get put in a prowler(they normally had 3.8L) and they had 20 hours in modifying the frame and then 40 hours in the wiring along with many other headaches. Then they still had a lot of problems in the future.

Im kind of thinking yea. This may not be a good swap unless you have alot of time to kill and done mind many many issues to come forth your way. Also...the alignment will have to be reset and possible heavier springs for the struts due to extra weight from the turbo..cooler...ect.
 
If you are just swapping the engines it will be an easy swap. The wirring and conecters in those years were identical. Make sure that you use the ECU from the turbo car. You shouldn't run in to any issues. I dont thank I would chance that five speed with the turbo motor. The trans should fit fine too, But you may have to buy a few new mounts for it, the cavalier used a diffrent trans mount for the auto. Good luck
 
The 3.1 turbo and th na 3.1 they look identical!!! Idk i think that we are going to start workin on it in the next few weeks if i can get a damn title for this guy on the grand prix. I will let you all know how it goes! Could be a laughing stock lol could suprise you all lol! I went and talked to a guy here in highland gene zwag (sp) he said that i will have fun but it will be well worth the effort!! And this is a man that is puttn a twin turbo small block in a 89 cavvy i think stretchn the front like 8 inchs it looks like and tubbin it out. Kinda where we got the idea after we found out that theres a 3.1 turbo n a grand prix at my dad storage lot that my dad towed in and has been there for almost a year so ya lol. They might just pick it up sometime with no turbo in it lol and a stock 3.1 lol!
