302 putting in a cam?

soundpressure

may the force be with me!
ok, im picking up a 302 with aprox. 60,000 miles on it , im wanting to put a new cam in it before it went into the car so i dont have to pull the motor again, what would you think should i replace cam bearings or should i be good to go ,i prefer not to. so i can make the swap a weekend project !!!!just wondering what ya thought let me know what you think.:D

i would, but that's my nature. don't leave anything to chance. you can look at the bearings, and get an idea of condition, and use your best judgement. keep in mind the bearings will look worse on the lower 1/2 of the circle, because that's where the valve train pressure is forcing it. if the bearings are worn, or if you are brutal on getting the old cam out/ new one in, you stand an excellent chance of damaging the bearings. in that case, replace them . its not difficult to do. use lots of cam lube everywhere.

i always replace them.alot of the times low oil pressure is caused by wore cam bearings, besides with a new cam its better to run new bearings, then they will wear to that particular cam.cam bearings are cheap and so are the tools to install them.if there is one thing i have learned it's do it right the first time.good luck!
