3rd Annual Dirt Works World Modified Championship

LOCUST GROVE AR. Richie Tosh, last year's World Modified Champion, claimed the middle spot in the front row for Saturday's 3rd Annual Dirt Works World Modified Championship at the Batesville Speedway. Tosh took the lead from Justin Boney, and went the rest of the way in the 25 lap qualifier. Another ten cars joined the 193 cars already entered, pushing the total to 203.
Jason Sullivan and Boney shared the front row of the qualifying feature event. The pair went side by side for the first lap before Boney was able to secure the lead on the backstretch on the second lap. Tosh, and Jeff Taylor were in pursuit of the frontrunners.
Sullivan and Boney were back to side by side racing on lap three, with Boney back out front on lap four. Tosh drove past Sullivan for second in turn four on lap four. Tosh was able to pull even with Boney for the lead on lap six. Tosh made the pass for the top spot in turn two on lap eight.
Gary Clark had moved into the top five on lap seven, and had shot all the way into third by lap nine, dropping Sullivan back to fourth, and Taylor fifth.
Out front, Tosh was able to open some breathing room, and was ten carlenghts ahead of the field by lap 10. Jeff Taylor moved by Sullivan on lap 11, and Scott Drake took over the fifth spot on the next circuit. Clark moved around Boney for second on lap 15.
Drake drove by Taylor for fourth on the backstretch on lap 17. Drake and Boney were side by side for third on the next go round. Kevin Salter brought out the first caution on lap 19 as he was stalled along the inside retaining wall in turn four.
On the restart, Mark Noble joined the fray, going 3-wide with Boney and Taylor for fourth. Taylor came out of the scramble with fourth spot, and Noble fifth. The yellow flag waved again on lap 21 for debris on the track.
Noble was able to get around Taylor for fourth on the restart. Drake and Clark then went side by side for second, with Drake picking up the spot in turn two on lap 23.
Richie Tosh sailed home with the win, with Scott Drake, Gary Clark, Mark Noble, and Jeff Taylor making up the top five. Willy Kraft, John Whittington, and Jason Wilkey picked up the final three transfer spots. Peyton Taylor and Justin Boney rounded out the top ten.
