CORONA, CA (August 4, 2009) - The superstars of the dirt late model racing world will converge on Florence Speedway in Union, KY this upcoming weekend for the Sunoco Race Fuels 27th Annual North/South 100 Presented by Lucas Oil. The event will be sanctioned for the second consecutive year by the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series.

On Thursday, August 6th, there will be an open practice session followed on Friday Night, August 7th with PRC Time Trials for the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series. The weekend will conclude on Saturday Night, August 8th with Heat Races, B-Mains and the 100-lap $50,000 to win/$2500 to start feature race. The cameras of SPEED Channel will be on hand for the second year in a row to tape the event, which will be shown on a date and time to be announced in the future.

Among other activities going on this weekend at Florence Speedway, will be the Ninth Annual National Dirt Late Model Hall of Fame ceremonies. The ceremonies will get underway at 6:00 PM on Saturday. This year's inductees include; Gene Chupp, Stick Elliott, Tootle Estes, Bruce Gould, Don Hester, Carlton Lamm, Kris Patterson, Mark Richards, and Ken Schrader.

The first North/South 100 was contested back in 1983 with Hall of Famer, Pat Patrick, of Saylor Park, OH winning the very first event, which became a staple on the Florence Speedway schedule. The race has been run every year since (except for a 2001 rain out) and the King Family started paying $50,000 to win back in 2003. Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series competitor Dan Schlieper of Sullivan, WI took home the first $50,000 payday back in '03.

Now listed as one of the crown jewel events in dirt track racing, the Sunoco Race Fuels 27th Annual North/South 100 Presented by Lucas Oil, continues to grow in prestige every year. It continues, not only because the best in dirt late model racing will be present, but they have to go up against arguably the best weekly Saturday Night racers in the country who call Florence Speedway home.

Brandon Green of Walton, KY is the current Late Model points leader at Florence followed by Jerry Rice of Verona, KY; Audie McWilliams of Walton, KY; David Spille of Harrison, OH; and Josh Williams of West Harrison, IN.

The Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series heads into this weekend's racing action at Florence Speedway with National Dirt Late Model Hall of Famer, Scott Bloomquist of Mooresburg, TN leading the championship point's standings by 165 over 4-time and defending series champion, Earl Pearson Jr. of Jacksonville, FL. At one point, in June, Bloomquist held a 360-point lead over the other contenders but since then has seen his lead cut to the margin it currently stands at. Jimmy Owens of Newport, TN is third in points followed by Dale McDowell of Chickamauga, GA and Don O'Neal of Martinsville, IN.

The top ten in LOLMDS points is rounded out by: Ray Cook of Brasstown, NC; Steve Casebolt of Richmond, IN; Brad Neat of Dunnville, KY; Eric Jacobsen of Seacliffe Beach, CA; and John Blankenship of Williamson, WV.

Blankenship leads the Quarter Master "Rookie of the Year" chase over David Breazeale of Four Corners, MS and Michael Walker of Franklin, TN.

The Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series has held 29 events in 2009 with 19 different drivers entering victory lane at least once. The series will have 42 races in 18 states this year with $75,000 going to the champion.
