Gaffney, SC- Cherokee Speedway hosts the 5th Annual "Cherokee Hall of Fame" race. Sunday Sept 4th. The $5,000 to win feature event will bring an action packed ULTIMATE weekend of racing to a close. With ULTIMATE events scheduled for Friday and Saturday at Wythe Raceway in Rural Retreat, VA followed by the Hall of Fame race here at Cherokee Speedway, teams will be on edge with equipment tested to the limits. Teamwork by the drivers and crews will be essential for a successful weekend of ULTIMATE racing.
The Hall of Fame event at Cherokee Speedway has quickly become a fan favorite as Cherokee Speedway honors and inducts members into the Cherokee Speedway Hall of Fame. This year's Hall of Fame inductees are as follows:
Legends: Raymond Payne Forrest City, NC
Modern Era: Freddy Crawford, Union SC
Contributor: Cotton Owens, Spartanburg, SC
Sportsman Class: Wally Fowler Inman, SC Sportsman
Track Inductee: David & Debra Perry / Racer & Promoters Cherokee Speedway during the 80's
These inductees will join the likes of Billy Scott, Mike Duvall, Freddy Smith, Jack Pennington, Stick Elliott, Jack Starette, Barry Wright and many other Cherokee Speedway legends. The induction ceremony is scheduled to begin Sunday evening at 6:45.
Chris Ferguson, defending Hall of Fame winner, along with Ultimate Points Leader Chip Brindle, Chris Madden, Casey Roberts, Dennis Rambo Franklin, Ricky Weeks plus a host of other drivers will be at "the place your momma warned you about" Cherokee Speedway on Sunday Sept 4th.
Speedway Grandstands will open at 4:30 Sunday, with the Driver's meeting scheduled for 6:30 PM and hot laps to begin promptly at 7 PM. The ULTIMATE Super Late Model Series will run a complete show featuring qualifying, heat racing main event paying $5,000 to the winner. Support divisions will include Limited Sportsman, Crate Sportsman Class, Pure Stock, Stock 4, Young Guns & Extreme 4(fwd).
