Things always change in the world of motorsports, but one type of event that consistently stays 'in tune' with the best, Midwest modified drivers that group to race three times a year in the traditional holiday 'Big Ones' is at Central Missouri Speedway in Warrensubrg. The 'top dawgs' are heading this way this Saturday to the place that feels just right as it's racing moniker; "Home of the Mighty Modifieds".

With a $22,000.00 total purse and $2,000 for the Farm & Home of Warrensburg/ T-Mobile "Bar-B-Que Bowl", 40 lap championship feature, the title means just as much to the drivers than the lucre. If they don't receive the honor as a winner this time, they probably will not be unhappy; 2nd pays $1500.00, third, $1000.00, $900 for fourth, #800 for fifth and stays super-solid all the way down the 24 car pay list.

And for the numerous additional fans that attend the 'big ones' every special will, for the second time this year, have more room to sit and enjoy the complete, four class program.

This week, a new, 410 seat section has been completed as of Tuesday. Just like the currently installed aluminum bleachers on the front-straight, this one is also mounted to a fresh concrete area that's set at an angle to get the best view of turn four.

The weekly top classes of Limited Late Models, WOFC Sprint cars and the wild and wooly Street Stocks will also participate in a complete set of runs.

Top drivers from the Midwest will be seriously competing against CMS' best.

Kansas City's "Fast" Richard Layne, CMS' 6-time CMS Modified champ, won his very first 'big one' in the running of last year's 'Bowl'. And he hasn't stopped winning them since. His third, consecutive big win happened during this year's first 'big one', the Memorial Modified Mayhem. He's the one that CMS' competitors will be gunning for.

Most tracks have fireworks to go along with the exacting holiday weekend. But for the second year, the giant fireworks display was rpesented last Saturday.

"We need all the time we can get for the specials to get it all in and be done at a reasonable time," reasoned Earl Walls, track owner and director.

Gates will open at 5 pm, hot laps will get underway at 7 and the first qualifying heat race will be green flagged at 7:30.

Even with added seating, it's still advised to arrive early for a good seat.

Although the special race show will once again pay out the heavy dollars, the grandstand admission fee will stay on the low side: Adults-$12, Sr. Citizens-$10, ages 6 though 11-$8 and under 6, free. Pit passes will hold at $20.

CMS is located five miles north of 50 highway and 11 miles south of I-70 on Missouri route 13 (exit at Higginsville).
