MONTGOMERY, WORLEY, BOYD AND FARRIS TAKE LABOR DAY WEEKEND WINS AT ST FRANCOIS COUNTY RACEWAY

Farmington, MO --(September 4) -- Joey Montgomery took the top honors in the Sprint Division Saturday evening. By winning his heat, the dash and the feature he turned the hat trick again this season for the third time. Taking charge from the start and leaving point leader Jimmy Hurley in his wake, Montgomery had total command and led all 25 laps of the event. During the race Montgomery handled the slower traffic with easy and only had a couple of challenges from Hurley. No caution flags came out and the race went the full distance. Montgomery was chased to the win by Jimmy Hurley, third place finisher Tommy Worley, Jr, fourth place runner Steve Short and fifth place goes to Casey Barnhouse.

The A-Modifieds had plenty of action in their division. Tommy Worley, Sr, Jeremy Greenwalt, Mike Francis, and Kent Nations were very fast from the outset. Point Leader Smith grabbed the lead at the flag. Worley and Nations followed closely. With only one lap in The caution flew for Jonathan Self and Adam Parmeley as the tangled in turn one. Then the action took a turn for the worse. The first restart saw Mike Abney’s car lose power and bottlenecked the field behind him. He would eventually bring out a caution. This set up the second restart again with Smith, Worley, and Nations still at the top. A ring of fluid appeared on the track and it was coming from the lead car of Smith. He pulled his car to the side and it was found later that the O-ring in the oil filter had split and forced the lead. Smith is trying to win the 2010 Championship. He started out the night with a 26 point advantage over Brent Thompson. This set up the lead for Tommy Worley. He had to deal with Greenwalt, Francis and Nations. Working the bottom of the track and Greenwalt working his very fast top side put on a classic duel. Greenwalt took the lead on Lap 6 stayed there, with Worley never more than 2 car lengths away, until Lap 12 where Worley took over for good and the win. Tommy said in his post race interview that he wasn’t happy getting beat by all these kids. Very upbeat with the win the Wall of Famer enjoyed the celebration with lots of friends and family.

Point leader in the Pure Street Division, Chris Boyd, did double duty on this night. Taking a car he owns and Shane Blair drives make it count in the B Modified Division and collected his second win of the weekend. He also won Friday at Doe Run. However it looked as if Eddie Gross had the faster car, but a miscue entering turn one got him looking the wrong way. The caution came out and Gross returned to the field on the tail. He would eventually finish fourth. Boyd now had to fight it out with B Mod Championship contenders Kenny Harris and Michael Savage. John Bohn and Jack Halbert also joined the parade. Harris kept pressure on Boyd for most of the distance. Michael Savage did not fair very well as his car was down for the count on lap 12 with a blown motor. Boyd claimed the win, Harris finished second and extended his point lead with two point nights remaining, John Bohn hung on for third, Gross as mentioned before takes fourth and Randy Forster complete the top five.

Pure Street Division found Jimmy Farris back in the Winners Circle again. He like there so much, he decided that a return trip was in order. Having little trouble with the field in the win, he told us he was getting ready for the match between himself and 2009 Champion Brian Blair next week. Surviving caution flags for minor issues, Farris enjoyed his second win with his group on the front straight. Runner-up honors go to Charlie Savage, Point leader Chris Boyd takes third, with Derek Lee and Dave Wofford finishing fourth and fifth.

Racing will continue next Saturday, September 11. This will be a $5.00 Grandstand admission night for adults. Children under the age of 12 are admitted free with a paying adult. Yeah, it was a GREAT modified race. Too bad the second place car that night wasn't even DISCUSSED in the article. I can't believe that it mentions some of the other guys who ran in the top 5 but it NEVER once mentions Matt Eaton (which, by the way, he finished 4th in his heat, started 11th in the feature & was the guy battling it out with Tommy Sr. for the win). Yeah, I know, I'm taking it personal b/c he's my brother...but even if he wasn't, I think the guy who came from pretty far back to almost win the darn thing deserves some type of recognition. The ONLY time Matt was even mentioned in the whole article was in the modified results. That is pretty sad! Other than that, great article about the awesome night of racing.

I really thought if Matt had about 2 or 3 more laps he may of took Tommy maybe, Tommy was smart and never gave him the inside line and he was tough to pass. I think that new car he got handles great and he looked excellent. Another one with a new car and will be super tough is Casey Nations, there is some really tough modifieds out there and they put on a great show.
paul will
