That was weird. I was sitting here just now and everything shook for a few seconds. Wasn't in town when the quake hit Friday. Guess I got to experience a little of what everyone here did...

was up on the computer and felt nothing here. i must have a drinking problem, haven't felt any shaking and been awake for all of them.

According to the USGS we're up to 23 earthquakes since Friday. I think I've felt 6 now. Last nights started out as a rather minor tremor and then at the end it was pretty loud with some pretty good shaking, but it was short and ended rather abruptly. Last nights event has been downgraded quite a bit by the USGS from a 4.5 to a 4 which I believe makes it 50 times less powerful.

Now, I was asleep at 12:38am, so I didn't feel it. But I was roused out of my slumber, looked at the clock, groaned, and went back to sleep.

However, that 2.8 on Friday night around 10:05pm, I definately felt that. Felt like someone had a dirt mover out front on tracks.

HONESTLY, These aftershocks can go somewhere else. I am over them entirely. Yeah, I know, I wish it were that easy. But, I am having major anxiety because of all of this. Can't go to sleep, and it keeps my mid racing all night with the "worst case scenario" I am so freaked out by the whole thing. Some people are like oh whatever get over it, I think their insensitivity is rude. I guess to each is own. Luky for me I ahve not felt any that where below 3 or I would surely be going out of my mind and in a white straight jacket, singing " their coming to take me away HA HA they coming to me away HE HE to the funny farm".

I was reading though that this wabash fault since it branches off of the New Madrid, that we just woke a sleeping bear,,, they say that it wil have to shift as well to compensate for the pressure that has been now added to it by this wabash fault line shifting. I hope the geologists are wrong, or we may be looking at a 7 pointer sooner than later. For now though,I hope these tremors/aftetshocks are done soon if not now! :(

one word...Xanax

And if you are over them, why are you still freaked out. Your not making any sense. The world has been doing this stuff for millions of years. Sit back hold on and enjoy the ride.

Never taken Xanax so I am not sure what it would do to me, but maybe I do need it :) I haven't made much sense in the last few day's Sorry :( I will try to sit back hold on not sure if I can enjoy the ride though
Thanks King

Dont feel bad it shook me up pretty bad too. That last one last night at 12 30 am didnt help out at all. Earthquakes are creepy.

The thing that makes them so scary is that they are more unpredictable than anything! I mean tornadoes, hurricanes stuff like that we usually have some sort of advance warning but with earthquakes there isn't. I didn't feel the first, main quake but I definately felt the 1020am aftershock on Friday. That is the only one I have felt. Now every time my dog starts barking at what I think is nothing I stop and wander if we are going to get another one :(

I don't really know if tornadoes are all that predictable, I nearly got hit by one two weeks ago in Little Rock. I don't know how close it was, but the wind changed directions completely, then there was a roaring noise and the wind was as strong as anything I've ever felt, and I have been in gusts up to 60 mph that I know of. This was worse. Of course, it was at night too, so I had no idea where the thing was, just close. For extreme weather/forces of nature experiences, I think I'm doing pretty good this year. Snoqualmie pass in Washington for the avalanches, tornadoe in Little Rock, now some tremors sitting at home. Whatever next? Maybe a Mississippi River Tsunami could get triggered by the quakes. Sure is enough water around to do it... lol

if your freaked out easily... like the person a few posts above... please don't read on......................... but my geology teacher n a few other sources have been telling me this. the big new madrid earthquake is on a 200 year schedule almost. the last one was in 1811 and the one before that its unsure of the date. and the last one made the Mississippi river run backwards and if you look at a map and see down by kentucky there is part of Illinois that looks like it should be kentucky. the earthquake rerouted the river so its like that now. so this very well could be the predecessor for "the big one." i read the journal of a guy who witnessed it. if i can find it i will post it.

Here's one for ya, called my mom sat. morning & asked if her world got rocked this morn. & she sez I'm going to you the same thing I told your sister, son. It's been a long time since my bed shook like that so I just laid there & enjoyed it... I had to pick myself up off the floor. she'll be 71 in 2 weeks LMFAO

I do get freaked out VERY easy, but I know what they are expecting. As I said in my way earlier post they think the wabash fault that shifted Friday woke the sleeping "New Madrid" bear. It has to realign to get back in groove with the one recently shifted. I would not be surprised if we see a big one in the real near future. ANd, I mean real near. Not tom ention I also heard that like you mentioned with the rivers running different directions, that compasses will point in different directions as well. Something about the lava and the magnetic forces within the earth going haywire. Maybe we are looking to much into this, but give people facts and maybe they wil prepare better, if it never happens than we were well prepared :)

I have been through my share of natural disasters. I just moved here not even a 2 years ago from Florida. So I, in my time and including the 2 years here have rode out hurricanes, several tropical Storms, an ice storm, a few severe floods, and last but not least an earthquake. I must admit Tornadoes and Earthquakes terrify me. The reason I guess my anxiety gets to me is this... we can take Hurricanes for example. I knew it was coming, so I could "prepare" myself. When it was sittng over us it pounded the hell out of us for a while but when it was over it was over...no aftershocks to deal with. So I did some thinking tonight, and honestly think that its the fact that i fear not being prepared for the worst or even the event. the what if's and the being caught off guard. Don't like that feeling. I understand that I can plan in my mind with these head games all I want of scenarios and outcomes, and that won't to me a bit of good if it does happen. What will be will be, and I have no control over that, and I guess that is what it boils down too...
It also does not help that I am a single parent and do these things on my own and when I am scared I have to be strong (which is very hard to do) so that my kids are not freaked out. Do you know how hard it is to maintian a calm composure when you are just terrified inside and need someone yourself to reassure you? Oh well, Geeze now that my book is complete I feel a littel better........For now

well im only 16 so thankfully i have no kids. but i do have a brother and sister, and with me being the oldest, i kind of know what your saying. but earthquake insurance sounds like a bunch of BS. i even saw something about it on the news tonight. if you were to get it right now it wont activate for 30 days, which is understandable, but it could have 20-30% or so deductibles. so if you have a $200,000 house and have $75,000 worth of stuff inside thats insured and your house is completely destroyed. you would have to fork up $82,500. but better safe than sorry i guess. maybe it will happen maybe it wont. lets bet on it. i got my money on December 12, 2012.
