Captioning attached to this photo says Sept. 3, 1961. If that's correct this is the James / O'Connor Memorial 100 lapper and Parnelli whupped 'em all that day. Both of these warriors are dirt track sideways on the paved highbanks ! Nothing against today's rollcage racers, but it took some supersize cajones to do what these 2 were doing.

Check out the reserved penthouse spectator seat in the tree.

Jones is in the Fike Plumbing Chevy, (USAC midwest champ 1960) this car and Jim Hurtubise also with a Chevy were the top runners that ended the Offy era in sprint cars. Foyt remained loyal to Offy for a time.
As a kid I watched Parnelli racing jalopys at the Carpintera Thunderbowl and Gardena Speedway (So. Cal.). Then later in USRRC/CanAm (Lola T70 Ford) and Trans Am (Ford Mustang.) Finally got to meet him in person at a Legends of Ascot event at Perris Auto Speedway.
