Tonight the day of Armed Forces, with rain hanging over our heads all night, proved to be an excellent night and track for racing action at Clarksville Speedway.

With the United Mini Sprints Association in town, we had one awesome night to play said a few of the guys. In their heat race action tonight, the 81 of Randy Burke from Brownsboro took the first heat and the 81M of Jimmy McClain; Jr from Memphis, TN took the second one. McClain was unofficially the fastest times with out straight out qualifying, and he was the one to watch we thought but proved to no avail, with the 77Y of Scooter Sanders from Lebanon, TN took the feature right out from underneath the two heat race winners. They did a four wide salute to the fans before their feature race, which was impressive. They are coming back again in September, so be on the look out for the date. We would like to thank the 19 drivers and crews that showed up for the show.

On to the local weekly action. In Late Model qualifying, Randle Sweeney in the Burr 33 set quick time, with a time of 12.518. Quick six showed Tony Albright at the front in the end, in his #1 Rayburn chassis car. Heat one saw Gary Johnson in his #20 GRT where he sat on the pole and stayed there all race long. In the second heat race Chris Cook in his Swartz Chassis #02 took the checkered flag. In Late Model Feature action we watched Tony Albright jump out to the lead and never look back. He was followed by Randle Sweeney (33), Bronson Berry (00), and father and son (Gary Frost and Richard Frost) bring home the rest of the top 5 respectively.

In Open Wheel action we saw some good close racing with the winner of the quick six dash being the 93 of Charles Zimmerman, and the heat race went to Wally Walker in the 7W. After some more good close action we saw David Flower in his 99 come from starting sixth. Zimmerman, Wally Walker, Corey Schmidt (19) and the 15 of Dwight Chitwood finish out the top five followed David.

Matt Potter (64) set quick time for the Pro Streets, putting him o the front row of the quick six. He went on to claim the checkered. In the heat race we saw Larry Barbur, Jr in the 54 car take the win. But with the quick six setup it was Potter and Larry Hamm (93) on the front row of the feature to start. Matt went on to win the feature. Following him was Hamm, Lucas Lee (55), Barbur, Jr, and the 11X of Curt Cherry.

Staring in the sixth spot in the first of two Street Stock heat races, was the eventual winner of 87 Dale Phillips. And then again in the second heat race we saw Timmy Wilson (29) who also started sixth take the win. But during the feature it was Dale Phillips showing the way, taking the checkered flag tonight. The 45 of Dorris McCord took second with, the 8 of Paul Musser taking home third. Fourth went to the 68 of Michael Byard and fifth going to the 83 of Chadd Hembree.

The last feature of the night was the Mini Stock class. There was only one winner for them tonight with Dale McCord (31) taking both the heat race and the feature. The 15 of Ronnie Richardson, 05 of Floyd Clinard, Jr., 10 Michael Rittenberry, and the 55 of Thomas Clinard followed Dale.

Clarksville Speedway would like to thank the fans that showed up to night and the crew and drivers, for their support and spirit on and off the track, despite the threat of rain lingering over head. We would also so like to thank Tim Doss 31 of the Street Class for carrying the flag during the playing of the National Anthem. To all have a good week and hope to see you back this coming weekend.

Don’t forget this Friday night we are having a Special Go-Kart race starting at 7p, gates opening at 5p. We race each and every Friday Night on the Go-Kart Track located behind the front stretch of the Stock Car Track. So come on out and join us for yet another exciting week at the races.
