I missed the rules meeting on this and was wondering if the crate engine was going to be allowed? Pevely's website rule book does not mention it and have not seen anything mentioned on here about it. Thanks for the info.

Good question. Im hearing all kinds of rumors abt this but havent seen or heard anything from Allied. ttt

At the rules meeting for Allied they said it would. But you must buy it directly from them. Also you have to run only a 650 4-barrel on it. I think they said it cost like $3300. Correct me if im wrong, but im pretty sure thats what was stated.

cg4518 thats where I was going with asking about them. I have heard of them becoming possibly the motor for sportsman in 2012 and doing away with the current engine rule. I would be interested in one if that is what everyone had to run...also like the idea of running true pump gas every week as opposed to buying high dollar race fuel....combine that with the tire rule and i see a savings in racing that would allow me to race more often..jmo

The crate motor is just a option. It will not be mandatory. You can weigh less also when running the crate motor. If you currently have a good allied motor i wouldnt be investing in a crate motor. Now if something happens to your motor it may be cheaper at that time to look into the crate option. Although i am not running in the sportsman division anymore i would think that the crate rule would be a good idea if they made it mandatory by 2012. But as far as i know it has only been considered a option at this point. I would be interested though to see how well a crate motor runs against a AARA motor. Does anyone know of anyone that is going the crate motor route this year? Good luck to all this race season!!

I think if allied wants this to be the future motor for sportsmans they should set a mandatory date. If it's 2012 they need to announce it asap, otherwise make it 2013.

I have a question who is going to be the 3 approved 602 engine builders? They were suppose to announce 3 shops where you can buy the 602's from. I would hope that UMP or allied never makes the 602 mandatory. Then a Dodge and Ford crate motor should be approved then to.

I'll try to set some of the rumors to rest quotes from above in quotation marks:

"You can weigh less also when running the crate motor."&"I would be interested though to see how well a crate motor runs against a AARA motor."
You can weigh 2700 and the crates will be tweaked to attempt equality with the current engines.

"Also you have to run only a 650 4-barrel on it."
Will be Holley PART #: 0-80541-1 only.

"But you must buy it directly from them."
Engines legal for competition will be purchased from and sealed by AARA.

"I have a question who is going to be the 3 approved 602 engine builders?"
There will be no engine "builders". There will be approved re-builder and engine will be inspected and sealed by AARA prior to return to owner.

"Then a Dodge and Ford crate motor should be approved then to."
When and if Dodge or Ford build an engine comparable to the 602 it will be up for consideration, as of now neither has anything remotely close.

"I think if allied wants this to be the future motor for sportsmans they should set a mandatory date."
Allied is not the only ones considering this. Hearing rumors on this like every one else, so that's the only comment I have on "mandatory".

You have any questions I'll answer them the best I can, cuts down on the rumor mill that way.

I personally think the 602's will run right with them. Looking at output curves............really close to the 355 i used to run. I had 3000 in it. But the 602 is way more reliable and wont have to turn it as hard as i did to get the horses. I dyno'd my ole motor...i know what she put out.

Ok so is allied going to waranty the motors since its mandatory to purchase it from them?
is allied going to do any internal inspection on the motors before they are sealed ?
all i can say is wow this may be the bad idea of the century. The 602 is good idea but not like this. stick to tech not furnishing motors.

Chris Fisher ran a crate late part time last year it was a 602 and he ran at Pevely a couple of time against the super lates and did not do to bad for a first timer in a late model. We have not touched the motor yet and it is still running strong. Our car weighs around 2400 lbs and is an older Rayburn. And last, we only used around 7 gallons of pump gas per night. I am not sure what the sportsman engines are at least know you know a little about the 602 that is not in writing but from one that is running on the same track with you.

Who are the "rebuilders" going to be? That hasn't been answered. Why allow them at all if other manufacturers don't have an "equal". Define egual as in the same price? Same horsepower? Maybe some of the other manufacturers cost more because they are built with better parts.

This isn’t a street car engine nobody’s going to warranty a performance engine. It seems to me that Allied is doing what UMP should have with the crate latemodels. No blueprinted engines, no buying half a dozen for dyno to pick out the strongest one. For once Allied has gotten it right!

Make them run off-the-shelf, 2BBL carbs and cast-iron intakes(No Modifications)! Allied can supply the MSD Boxes instead,HMM..........?

Thank you Mr Intake for the facts.

When can we purchase the motor from allied and who do we contact?

We are working with Scott from Highland on a couple final rules details. Then all the details will be supplied. I am also working with GM Performance on some Discount Certificates for your purchase!

What if someone already has a 602 or buys a used one. Can he have your "approved rebuilder" take it apart and confirm it to be legal and seal it with your seals.

The 602 crate motor sportsman car will weigh 2800 lbs and We will get all the infro too you asap .This a joint effort with Highland and Allied. Milter Bros will be the rebuilder of these crate motors. Just them for know so we can police them !!1 Ford crate motor is being look at now and will balance everything out just as we always have.

New motors only ... Used motors could be tampered with before the rebuilder gets it .This NEW motor program makes it on a level playing field. IF YOU BUY A MOTOR FROM ALLIED AND NEED IT REBUILT IT HAS TO HAVE OUR SEALS STILL ON IT TO BE REBUILT.
