Kyle Amerson races to career first www.rockauto.com USCS 600 Sprint win at Magnolia

March 1, 2014 - Columbus, MS - Kyle Amerson from Matthews, Alabama raced to his career first www.rockauto.com USCS 600 Sprint Car Series win during the USCS Frostbuster 250 presented by Carl Hogan Toyota at Magnolia Motor Speedway on Saturday night. Amerson driving a new car and sporting a new #12 numeral instead of his familiar #29 started in fourth position and raced into the runner-up spot behind early race leader Curt Schumacher from Columbus, Mississippi on the first lap. He then chased Schumacher for the first nine laps until Schumacher lost a drive chain on the re-start after a lap-nine caution period. Amerson grabbed the lead and raced the final six laps around the 3/8 mile clay oval to the www.rockauto.com USCS victory lane. The 2013 www.rockauto.com USCS 600 Sprint Car Series Rookie of the Year, 13 year-old Brandon Taylor from Cumming, Georgia chased Amerson across the finish line for a career high USCS finish in second place. The defending National Champion, Sean Hosey from Clarksville, Tennessee captured the K&N Filters Podium Award and third place money. 2011and 2012 series Champion, Bobby Zaiontz from Columbus, Mississippi came across in fourth place and Rick Goss from Charlotte, North Carolina completed the top five.
Kyle Carpenter from Baldwyn, Mississippi started his #13 car thirteenth in the field then raced all of the way to sixth place at the finish. Bob Trapino from Alpharetta, Georgia followed Carpenter in seventh place. Justin Rabon from Seale, Alabama followed Trapino in eighth place and rookie driver, Bo Barber from Clarksville, Tennessee placed ninth. Curt Schumacher was scored in the tenth position.
Amerson garnered a win in the Engler Machine and Tool First Heat. Schumacher won the www.rockauto.com Second Heat race. As previously mentioned Kyle Carpenter charged from the seventh row past seven cars to earn the Wilwood Disc Brakes Hard Charger Award. The K&N Filters Pole Award went to 13 year old Brandon Taylor and Sean Hosey earned the K&N Filters Podium Award with a third place finish.
