Anothopolis Tops Lebanon Midway LateModel Win/Kelley Headlines Mod Victory

Lebanon,Mo.-ShowMe RacinSeries Regular Shannon Anothopolis made his first visit to the Lebanon Midway Speedway a profitable one as the youngster grabbed the lead eearly and held off a late race surge from Donnie Timmerman in recording the LateModel feature win before another capacity crowd at the Midway.
Donnie Timmerman held the pole as the green dropped,but he and Kris Jackson got together in turn 2 as Timmerman pulled into the pits with a flat and brought up the rear of the field.On the restart,Anothopolis jumped to the early lead with Jackson in tow.Once out in front,Shannon pulled away from the field as Timmerman was coming on strong.A late race caution bunched the field together with only 6 to go putting Timmerman who had battled Barney Bauerfiend hard in the middle stages of the race.On the restart,Anothopolis pulled away from Timmerman,but Timmerman came back with only 3 laps to go and challanged.As the white was displayed,Anothopolis pulled away in grabbing the feature win followed by Timmerman,Nathan Gold,Bauerfiend,and Kris Jackson.
The Modified feature saw opening night winner JD Kelley grab the lead on the opening lap with former IMCA Nationals winner Wayne Graybeal right on his bumper as last weeks winner Eric Hudson holding to third.A couple of cautions for spins kept the field bunched up,but on the restart,Kelley was holding onto the top spot.Early top 5 front runners Mike Riddle and Jim Piercey Jr. fell out early with mechanical problems while behind the lead 3,the battle for 4th was fast and furious between James Hartman,darren Vest,Stanley Henson,and others.Third place running Hudson spun along with Shawn Williams as they restarted in the back on lap 6.With Kelley holding on,Graybeal started to make a charge to the lead on lap 10 as Williams and Hudson were coming fast from the rear.Working the lapped traffic,leader Kelley and Graybeal were moving through the field while Williams,Hudson,Henson,Hartman,and Vest were swapping spots.On lap 17,Hudson made the move into third and set his sight on the leaders as Kelley had a mirror full of Graybeal.As the white displayed,Keley kept it pointed straight and grabbed his second win of the season followed closely by Graybeal,Hudson,Williams and Hartman in the top 5.
THe SuperStock feature saw Rick Brown jump to the early lead with Tim Petty right on his bumper as last weeks winner Ben Newell who had started 6th,fell back due to car not coming up to power.With Brown in charge,Tim Petty kept the pressure on while Gary Johnson and Tim Brown battled for third place.Back in the pack,Newell who had fell back to 9th began his charge to the front picking his way through the pack.On lap 6,Newell had pulled up on Brown's bumper and the race was on as Tim Petty and Gary Johnson battled for position.On lap 8,Newell made the pass in turn 3 around Brown to grab the lead.On lap 13,the yellow waved as 4th place running Johnson went out of the action with a tire coming off taking him out of contention.On the restart,Newell found Brown challanging hard for the lead while Tim Petty was looking for running room also in the chase.As the checkered flew,Newell grabbed his second win followed by early leader Brown,Petty,Tim Brown,and Brad Gayer.
The FactoryStock feature was a wild affair as 21 cars took the opening green with David Hendrix taking the lead early followed closely by Kenny Carroll,last weeks winner Randy BerryTim Brown,Quintin Day,Bill Schoen,and Colt Cheevers.An early incident took out Steve Schultz along with John Gamble as the field bunched up on lap 5.Day would retire with problems was his car came to a halt on the backstretch as Hendrix spun in turn 4 while running in the top 5.On the restart,Randy Berry took control with Tim Brown and Kenny Carroll battling back and forth for position while Joe Lafferty who had started at the end of the field was coming fast along with Ron Maples who had pulled into the pits with a dragging back bumper.Up front,Berry was setting a good pace as Tim Brown was making his move forward.On lap 9,Brown caught leader Berry and pulled the winning move through the lapped traffic in becoming the 3rd different winner in the FactoryStocks.Following Brown to the line was Berry,Carroll,Lafferty,and early contender Hendrix.
The Bomber Feature was wild as Tyler Schoen grabbed the early lead with Eldon Stoner in tow as 2 time winner Robert White and dusty Rhoades battled for position.On lap 1,Stoner's rear-end locked up and Schoen headed for the pits with a flat tire putting Rhoades in the lead.On the restart,Rhoades and White battled for the top spot as Missy Shaw,Lamar Neuman,Matt Haynes and Chad Cromer were battling behind the lead duo.The action heated up the crowd as on lap 12,White pulled an outside move on Rhoades to grab the lead,but then on the next,White's raer tire and wheel came off as Rhoades took back the lead.Once in front,Rhoades drove to his first win on the Midway as Missy Shaw moved into the runner-up spot as White was riding 3 wheels home into third followed by Haynes and Cromer.
The Winged Sprint feature saw Clint Todd grab the early lead and never looked back in grabbing his second win of the season followed by JP Compton,Joe todd,John Rowland,and Eric Todd.Lebanon's Scott Wedelstadt survived a 5 time barrell roll during hotlaps eliminating him from action.
The Mini-stock feature saw last weeks winner Bobby Moore,opening night winner Travis Pruitt and hotshoe Larry Andrus all going for the same piece of track on the backstretch as Moore caught the backstretch wall and rolled twice on the opening lap taking him out of action along with Pruitt.On the restart,Bryan Deatherage grabbed the opening laed and never looked back in grabbing his first win of the season followed closely by Mike Piercey,Larry Andrus,Tony Moore,and Scott Young.
Over 90 race tems checked into the pits on an unlucky Friday the 13th for many racers,as it was announced that in 2 weeks,the Midway would be running a special Friday/Sat Night race card.on Aug 27,the regular program of LateModels,Modifieds,superStocks,FactoryStocks,Bombers, and Mini-stocks will go out it as Kenny Schrader's Nascar Showcar will be at the Speedway and a special Sat night race on Aug.28th will be held featuring a 100 lap Enduro race paying 2000 to win along with a special paying race for Modifieds,FactoryStocks and Winged SprintCars.Next Friday night will be a regular race program with the Gates opening at 5,hotlaps at 7:25 and racing at 8PM.For more information,visit the website at www.Midway-Speedway.com
