Officials with the UMP Crate Speedweek Series have been monitoring the National Weather Service of Paducah radars and weather statements and upon phone calls from series and visiting drivers been forced to cancel their part of tonights racing program at Paducah Int’l Raceway, however the event has been replaced with a regular, UMP DIRTCAR weekly event still scheduled for PIR tonight. Track officials have had no reported rain at the track and plan to proceed with their regular weekly program for their local racers. The series facing phone calls from its committed drivers as to their decision to withdraw from the event due to radar and forecasted late afternoon and evening rains forced the decision. “We had a couple of central Indiana, Kentucky and East Tennessee drivers who were making their own decisions not to come tonight due to the investment of racing funds in possibly rain out situation.” Said series race director Richard Cunningham. “Doug’s (Smith, Series President) been getting calls even from our Clarksville committed drivers as to their decision of just not taking the risk with the forecast.” “It’s hard to call a race when it hasn’t rained, and we applaud Paducah’s commitment to their local racers. They have had a tough year with the rain and want to race. But due to the travel commitments of the overall majority of our racers, we felt we had to make the tough choice to call just out portion of the program and save our budget racers their expenses for another event, hopefully tomorrow’s race at Western Kentucky Speedway. We may be faced with the same decision tomorrow”, said Cunningham. Racing updates for tonight’s regular program at Paducah Int’l Raceway can be obtained by searching their facebook page at PaducahRacing or by calling the speedway direct at 270-898-SHOW.
