ASCS Coastal Region Ready for Pike County Speedway

Lonnie Wheatley, TULSA, Okla. (May 1, 2007) – The first year of action for the new American Sprint Car Series Coastal Region continues with Saturday night's card atop the high-banked, 3/8-mile Pike County Speedway clay oval in Magnolia, MS.



And with the opening four events of the season in the books, it is Amite, LA, racer Michael Dupuy who has broken into the series early point lead.



A past ASCS National Tour runner-up, Dupuy will try to add his second ASCS Coastal win of the year as he races just 30 miles from his home. Dupuy's first win of the year came in Long Beach, MS, on March 24.



Chasing the inaugural ASCS Coastal Region championship, Dupuy currently holds a 34-point lead over Louisiana's Michael Herrington and Mississippi's Robert Casada, who are tied for third.



Splitting time between the ASCS Coastal and Gulf South Regions, Channelview, TX, racer Chris Sweeney is currently fourth in points, with Saucier, MS, shoe Todd Fayard rounding out the current top five.



The balance of the current top ten in ASCS Coastal Region points include Shane Morgan, Timmy Thrash, Lane Whittington, Michael Miller and Hunter Phillips.



Saturday's racing action at Pike County Speedway gets under way at 8:00 p.m.



Pike County Speedway is located in Magnolia, MS, off I-55 Exit 8, then 0.2 miles east on Gillsburg Road. For more information, contact the track at 601-783-2500.



The ASCS Coastal Region is slated to contest 21 events at 13 different tracks throughout Mississippi and the surrounding area including portions of Alabama, Florida, Louisiana and Texas.



The 2007 season marks the 16th year of sanctioning Sprint Car racing for the American Sprint Car Series. With 12 different Regions in addition to the O'Reilly American Sprint Cars on Tour National series, ASCS will sanction approximately 240 nights of racing at more than 100 different race tracks throughout at least 30 different states and Canada.
