ASCS Coastal Region Returns to South Mississippi Speedway

Lonnie Wheatley, TULSA, Okla. (May 29, 2007) – After two weeks off to regroup, the stars of the American Sprint Car Series Coastal Region fire back into action with this weekend's event in the southern portion of Mississippi.



On Saturday night, the series makes its second and final stop of the year at South Mississippi Speedway in Long Beach, MS.



The series entertained a packed house in its debut at the semi-banked, ¼-mile dirt oval on March 24, with current series point leader Michael Dupuy posting the feature win.



Hailing from Amite, LA, Dupuy currently holds a 28-point lead over Gonzales, LA, shoe Michael Herrington, with the balance of the top five including Robert Casada (Petal, MS), Timmy Thrash (Gulfport, MS) and Todd Fayard (Saucier, MS).



Also currently ranked among the top ten are Shane Morgan (Biloxi, MS), Chris Sweeney (Channelview, TX), Lane Whittington (Denham Springs, LA), Terry Gray (Bartlett, TN) and Hunter Phillips (Gulfport, MS).



With six ASCS Coastal Region events in the books, Dupuy has captured a pair of wins with Marshall Skinner, Jason Johnson, Gary Wright and Travis Rilat each picking up one win.



Saturday's racing action goes green at 8:00 p.m.

The ASCS Coastal Region is slated to contest 21 events at 13 different tracks throughout Mississippi and the surrounding area including portions of Alabama, Florida, Louisiana and Texas.



The 2007 season marks the 16th year of sanctioning Sprint Car racing for the American Sprint Car Series. With 13 different Regions in addition to the O'Reilly American Sprint Cars on Tour National series, ASCS will sanction approximately 240 nights of racing at more than 100 different race tracks throughout at least 30 different states and Canada.
