Lonnie Wheatley, TULSA, Okla. (June 11, 2007) – Shaking off the effects of Spring showers, the American Sprint Car Series Gulf South Region fires back into action this Saturday night with the series first stop of the season at Fast Trax Speedway in Chatham, LA.
With three events in the books this season for the ASCS Gulf South Region and four rainouts, Saturday's event will mark the fourth round of the season for the series.
In the series most recent weekend of racing action on May 18-19, a pair of new faces graced ASCS Gulf South victory lane for the first time including Johnny Miller of Burleson, TX, and Brandon Berryman of Missouri City, TX.
And it is those two drivers that have climbed atop the series early season point charts, with "Baja" Miller holding a slim 12-point advantage over Berryman.
Skip Wilson of Mesquite, TX, is just another ten points back in third, with past series champion Ray Allen Kulhanek of Conroe, TX, just points behind Wilson. Three-time series runner-up Greg Rilat of Texas City, TX, enters the weekend ranked fifth, with the balance of the top ten including defending champion Gary Watson (Beaumont, TX), Chris Sweeney (Channelview, TX), Kent Lewis, Jr., (Willis, TX), Eric Baldaccini (Keller, TX) and Jimmy Brooks (College Station, TX).
Among other expected for Saturday's event are Tommy Bryant, Richard Holt, Lane Whittington, Larry Hartwell and 16-year-old Kathryne Minter of Bedford, TX.
Saturday's action at Fast Trax Speedway gets under way at 7:00 p.m.

The 2007 slate for the ASCS Gulf South Region consists of 22 events at ten different tracks throughout Louisiana and Texas as well a single event in Mississippi.
The 2007 season marks the 16th year of sanctioning Sprint Car racing for the American Sprint Car Series. With 13 different Regions in addition to the O'Reilly American Sprint Cars on Tour National series, ASCS will sanction approximately 240 nights of racing at more than 100 different race tracks throughout at least 30 different states and Canada.
