Lonnie Wheatley, TULSA, Okla. (June 26, 2007) – With hopes of a reprieve from Mother Nature, the American Bank of Oklahoma ASCS Sooner Region is set to invade the high-banked, ¼-mile Cowtown Speedway dirt oval in Kennedale, TX, this Saturday night.
And with five of the series last six events rained out, the only driver that keeps smiling with each rainout is current series point leader Cody Branchcomb of Sapulpa, OK.
With just four events in the books, the 21-year-old racer continues to hold a 38-point advantage in the championship points race over Conroe, TX, shoe Ray Allen Kulhanek and Tulsa's Brian McClelland, who are tied for second.
Branchcomb, keeping his driving skills sharp with some extra hours on Xbox, maintained his series lead by racing from 15th to finish fourth at Mid-America Speedway on June 9, the series only event since April 21.
While former ASCS Gulf South champion Kulhanek and Brian McClelland are Branchcomb's closest chasers, two-time Sooner Region champion Kevin Ramey enters Saturday's card 59 points off the lead pace after winning the June 9 event at Mid-America. Ramey also topped the ASCS Sooner Region season opener at Cowtown on April 14.
The April 14 score marked Ramey's second ASCS Sooner Region at Cowtown in nine events held atop the lightning-fast high-banked oval since 2004. Ramey, who resides within several miles of Cowtown Speedway, ranks as the series' winningest driver with 16 career Sooner Region victories.
Saturday's racing action at Cowtown Speedway fires off at 7:00 p.m.

The 2007 season marks the 16th year of sanctioning Sprint Car racing for the American Sprint Car Series. With a dozen different Regions in addition to the O'Reilly American Sprint Cars on Tour National series, ASCS will sanction approximately 240 nights of racing at more than 100 different race tracks throughout at least 30 different states and Canada.
