Lonnie Wheatley, TULSA, Okla. (May 29, 2007) – In its 16th year of sanctioning Sprint Car racing in the United States, the American Sprint Car Series has never contested an event atop asphalt. That will all change this weekend however, as the ASCS Southern Tour makes history with a pair of asphalt events.

On Friday night, the ASCS Southern Tour presents the first asphalt card in ASCS history when its top guns take to the semi-banked, 4/10-mile Ace Speedway in Altamahaw, NC. Then on Saturday night, it's on to Dillon, South Carolina's 4/10-mile Dillon Motor Speedway.

The ASCS Southern Tour is introducing several asphalts events to the 2007 schedule to broaden the series fan base as well as present its drivers with a more diversified set of tracks to compete upon.

After narrowly missing out on the series title last year, Johnny Bridges of Cherryville, NC, is out to the early series point lead with a 12-point advantage over Brian Smith. The balance of the current top five includes Clarence Cox, Brandon McLain and Kenny Adams.

Friday's action at Ace Speedway goes green at 8:00 p.m., with Saturday's event at Dillon Motor Speedway firing off at 7:30 p.m.

Ace Speedway is located eight miles north of Burlington, NC, on SR 87 to Altamahaw Union-Ridge Road, then 0.2 miles east, then 0.1 mile north on Altamahaw Church St., then 0.1 mile east on Cherokee Drive, then 0.6 miles north on Altamahaw Race Track Road. For more information, contact the track at 336-585-1200.

Dillon Motor Speedway is located in Dillon, SC, off I-95 Exit 193, then west. For more information, contact the track at 843-774-1888.

The ASCS Southern Tour is slated for 18 nights of action in 2007 at a dozen different tracks throughout North Carolina, South Carolina, Virginia and Georgia.

The 2007 season marks the 16th year of sanctioning Sprint Car racing for the American Sprint Car Series. With a dozen different Regions in addition to the O'Reilly American Sprint Cars on Tour National series, ASCS will sanction approximately 240 nights of racing at more than 100 different race tracks throughout at least 30 different states and Canada.
