Lonnie Wheatley, TULSA, Okla. (May 1, 2007) – The 28th consecutive year of racing action for the Engine Pro ASCS Sprints on Dirt presented by Victor Reinz gets under way with this Saturday night's season opener atop the semi-banked, 3/8-mile Crystal Motor Speedway clay oval in Crystal, MI.

Saturday's event marks the first of 20 championship point events for the ASCS Sprints on Dirt at ten different tracks throughout Michigan as well as Ontario.

And when the engines come to life Saturday night, it will be Manitou Beach, MI, racer Ken Mackey who reigns as defending series champion after outlasting Gary Fast, Gregg Dalman, Kyle Patrick and Dain Naida for a hotly contested 2006 crown.

Those five will be joined by a host of other contenders on Saturday night, including 2005 Sprints on Dirt champion Tim Norman, who sets his sights on a second series title after a work-related injury forced him to miss a pair of events last year.

Mackey earned the 2006 championship on the strength of a series-best five feature wins. None of those came at Crystal Motor Speedway, as the track offered up a variety of winners with Mike Brecht, Steve Irwin and Dustin Daggett each taking Crystal wins.

Saturday's action at Crystal Motor Speedway goes green at 7:30 p.m.

Crystal Motor Speedway is located in Crystal, MI, 5.5 miles north of SR 57 on Crystal Road, then east on Sidney. For more information, contact the track at 989-235-5200.

The 2007 season marks the 16th year of sanctioning Sprint Car racing for the American Sprint Car Series. With a dozen different Regions in addition to the O'Reilly American Sprint Cars on Tour National series, ASCS will sanction approximately 240 nights of racing at more than 100 different race tracks throughout at least 30 different states and Canada.
