Question for Highland Speedway?

Why was the Sportsman Feature race shortened to only 10 laps? There were only 4 cautions during the race, with none involving a tow truck. At the last caution, the announcer said there were 8 laps down with 7 to go. Then he said it was green/white/checkered. Did anybody else notice this?

It couldn't have been a time problem....the race didn't take that long. Could someone please explain. Thanks.

And another thing, at no time was this race announced as an Extreme Sportsman Race in the series. Why not?

I kind of wondered the same thing...and I didn't even know that it was an Extreme series race. I know that they were close to curfew at the end of the night, but they did take a pretty long intermission

Right. The Streetstock race (the last race of the evening) was started before the 11:00 p.m. curfew and finished just after 11:00 p.m., so that was OK. I checked my watch just before it was over.

I don't believe they shortened any other race during the evening, not even the Vintage cars, which had a rather long wait before they started their Feature.

I guess now we know what Highlands priorities are when they cut the feature for the sportsman, not even acknowledge its an Extreme Sportsman race, but they let people dig in the sand for an hour and 15 min intermission.

I do believe they did work on the track and make it more racey instead of everybody going to the bottom. I dont mind as a fan waiting for them to work on it. And yes I did hear them say due to the time it would go green, white, checkered.

that's sad

they didn't even have ten seconds to let me on the track for my feature in the hornet class and I had an official at my pit telling them that im on my way.C me L8R

What Hallin is trying to say is that when the hornet feature came time to line up, his car would'nt start. So I was helping him jump it when a track official came down and told us " You have 3 minutes". We got the car running, got belted in and BOTH made it to the gate in less than 2 minutes only to have the gate closed in front of us. Then we BOTH got turned away saying we were out of time whenever they weren't even moving yet. Later I talked to Scott and he said that the 3 minute rule applies ONLY after the last race has ended. Which COMPLETELY contradicted what the other official had told us. So.. WHY were we TOLD TO GO if they were just gonna close the gate on us anyway???? We had time and were turned away. Just wanted a chance just like everyone else...:(

I hope you two got your pit pass money back. You should.

We had checks waiting, but are listed as DNS on the results I believe. I'm not too concerned bout the points aspect, but I pay for seat time. Driving is way more fun than loading up while hearing OUR feature running.:( Thanks for your input Ms. Cummins.:) I was just disappointed cause I had family there and they didn't get to watch me run in the show.:(

Extreme Sportsman race

Debbie
On the Highland Speedway schedule it stated this was the Extreme Racing event.. I did notice that because I was curious if Highland points were being awarded then.

Check out the schedule and it tells you what every night is suppose to be.

The only thing about cutting the laps short I could think of is... I believe each race has it's own individual time limit.. but I could be wrong. I was kind of mad they cut it short.. racing was good Saturday night only to be cut short.

"hope I helped any"

spostsmen laps

i was there and from what i heard was the time limit for the sportsmen feature race was close to being over so they cut them short

It sure didn't seem like it was even close to being near the time limit, but then I get so excited and involved in taking down car numbers and order of cars, that I don't watch the time. It just didn't seem that it took that long. It was a good race! Shame they stopped it short of the 15 laps.

I usually listen to the officials on my scanner and I do know that the officials keep each race on a time limit. The problem with the Sportsman feature was that they ran 23 cars because they did not have time to run the consi and most of the yellows were caused by cars that would not have been in the feature if they would have ran it. I understand why they did what they did but I can also see that it ruined some good racing up front. Russel Eilers passed three or four cars on one lap but it was all for not because one of the cars in the back spun. I don't have any better ideas about what they should have done. You run the consi then you don't get all of the features in. You don't run it then you have more yellows in the feature and end up cutting it short. It's a d*mned if you do d*mned don't kind of situation.

No it's damned if you do! This was a special race. Some of these drivers towed a long way. Add to that they are racing for a $10,000 point fund. They should have run the sportsman feature first. They should have run all the laps. And they should have payed more $400 to win and $35 to start is pathetic, it's no wonder I can't get any more cars to come up here. I had a sponsor lined up for this race but Scott never returned my phone call last week so it will go to another track. Don't throw me under the bus Sue. I don't like getting phone calls wanting to know why I didn't get more money for the purse. I don't get paid by the Highland Speedway and I'm not making any money off of this series. I also had a sponsor in the stands that wanted to sponsor some races next here... guess what He won't sponsor one at Highland. If you want to see a good Extreme Sportsman race come to Belle Clair tonight $1000 to win and I didn't even have to give them money to do it.
Thank you
Dean Nichols

WoW Dean hate to hear this! You have put so much time and energy into this series and it truly shows. I know alot of these guys and yes they had a good ways to haul and they were not what I would say disappointed but more like PISSSED ! And not at EXTREME or YOU !
I would like to Thank You for all you do for this class it is really appreciated .......

I don't even race a sportsman and I appreciate what the Extreme series is doing. Simply because its a great division and great racing. Its nice to see these cars have a bone thrown their way. Hopefully the sportsman guys will continue to support it so it can last.

Good job Dean!
