Austin Dillon to drive #3 in Sprint Cup for RCR

When I first watched Austin race down at the Charlotte Dirt Track at the World Finals when he was 15-16ish, you could kinda see it coming then. He raced a Late Model with a big #3 on the side and set fast time in 1 session and 3rd in another with Grandpa(Richard Childress) in attandence. It was just a matter of time before it happened if the kid had enough talent.

I can see this both ways. Never was a big fan of dale sr but I can see why his fans don't like the idea. I'm sure Austin grew up idolizing dale and if Jr isn't going to use the number then this is the next best thing. Good luck to him. It will be a long time before people stop asking him about the number and seems like a lot of extra pressure to put on the kid.

to me racing is a family sport,,, racers just don't retire numbers like in other sports,, We carry on and pass it down.. I'm proud of that,,, my brother carries my dads old number (3b) he's made us proud some nights and had some pretty ugly nights with that number too, but we carry that number to honor my father,, continued tradition, my son will race a car with a #3b on it as well someday,, and I cant wait to see it...... Austin IS part of the family, maybe not through blood but you don't have to be related in racing to be family.... I look forward to seeing him out there.... I think he will run that car with all the grace and determination that Dale did..... it will be fun to watch.........
just my opinion
