Austin, who is 17-years-old, is currently competing in his tenth year of racing action and pilots the #7D Theiss Motorsports/LG21/Mullins Racing Engine Open Wheel Modified. For 2014 Theiss is focusing on the United States Modified Touring Series (USMTS) Rookie of the Year title. When not competing with USMTS he will compete in a variety of Open Wheel Modified events across the country.
Last weekend, February 21st-22nd, Austin was in action at Battleground Speedway (Highlands, Texas) in the 3rd Annual Southern Chill. Competition began on Friday night with Theiss finishing second in the A-qualifier, which transferred him to Saturday night's finale. In the feature on Saturday evening Austin led the first half of the race before a rock unfortunately knocked a hole in the radiator, which forced him to retire from the event. The team now turns their attention to the annual Port-A-Cool Texas World Dirt Track Championship, which will be held at the Dirt Track at Texas Motor Speedway (Justin, Texas) on March 6th-8th. The $3,000-to-win event will see an open practice session held on Thursday evening with preliminary action on Friday night.
