B Mod input,,,,,

What does everyone think about allowing quick change rear ends? I put this on here because when you go to buy a used mod to run in the B-Mod class,,9 out of 10 cars will have a quick change in it. I don't see a problem with it at all,,they do require more hp to turn than the 9",,so no power advantage,,you still can run a 9" inch,, a lot of guys have every thing they need already for the 9",,so they will be the first to complain,,but what if I had nothing and was looking to buy a used A-Mod to run in the B-Mod class? See where I am coming from? Hell,,UMP might as well throw this out there also,as they have 4 sets of B-Mod rules on their web site for this class now,,,,,go figure!!

If I remember right, the first year Farmington allowed quick changes in A-mod they made the rule that you couldn't change gears at the track. If a rule like this was put into affect, who cares if you have a quick change? You're gonna take more power to use it and you can't even take advantage of being able to change gears between heat and feature. Just my opinion..

change gears at the track,,in 45+ years I have only changed gears 20 times,,call the gear n lock them in

Allow QC rearends and only allow traditional 9 inch ratios 7:00, 6:83, 6:50 etc..... but how do you consistantly tech gear ratios...... but as long as there is no advantage and floater 9 inches are a competitive option then it would be ok........ but, its a slippery slope.....
No dog in this fight, my vote doesnt count.......

Like was said if you could make it to where they cant change gears i have no problem with quickchanges. But good luck with that. Thats their advantage. Can change gears after every race and yes it makes a huge difference on lap times.

You also could change gears,,not just as easy or quick...So gear changes is not the answer

I agree. Years Ago We got to a point where we could change a 9" gear set faster than changing underwear. lol. Seriously though I do see how keeping the standard 9" keeps things a but more even across the board. I could go on and on about running what you came with but what happens if you blow a trans or rearend. Gotta swap it out so how different is it. Do they check to make sure your putting the same trans and gear ratio. Ump rules are pretty crude so I personally don't see any good reason to change.

why change what has worked for two years u want a quick change race a mod. hell if you have one in your back pocket u have several options possible trade for 9 inch keep for later use or just plain ole sell it 9 inch and 3 link seem to be working fine

Well your right that you can change 3rd members. Just many wouldnt due to its time consuming and would make a pit crew member mad doing that 3 times in 1 night lol. But yes it is doable. But my opinion is the b mod should be like the street stocks. A watered down class with no fancy pieces of equipment. Everyone has their opinions and this one is just mine. Good points made though

  • Quick changes should not be allowed in B-mods.
  • It would make guys feel like they need to drop $1300 just to stay competitive.
  • It would make it harder to tech for illegal differentials. (you know that differential that came in the car when you bought it, had no idea what it was or that it was even in there) ;)
If you buy a car with a Quickchange in it, sell it, buy a 9" and have $300 left over for beer money.
Hmm, no Quickchange = an extra $300 for beer money, that's a no brainier right there!

There are so many surplus 9" housings and 3rd members laying around, people are practically giving them away.
Hell a guy I help has two Shaw centered housings and I have a near brand new 2" offset complete rear-end for a Pierce just taking up space in my garage.

If I were you I would be fighting the fight to allow Berts and Brins (maybe limit it to splined output shafts to keep high $$ Ball-Splines out of the class)

Let's assume we are getting a car with a quick change already in it,,,,so now I have to take it out and put it aside,,,,,Lets assume I have to buy my replacement new,,not used,,new and at least 2 sets of 9" gears all new with full spools and Daytona carriers...At retail I will be looking at probably a minimum of $1400,,,that does not include the trailing arm brackets and the 9" brackets that will need welded on rear end.. Now let's assume that I can run my quick change that came in the car,,,,I need at least 2 more sets of gears at retail of about $150......Now you tell me that the quick change is not feasible?? Just trying to see what everyone thinks if you were to buy a whole new set up....kenwoodjeff says we need to drop $1300 just to stay competitive?? Why? You can still run the 9''...I am not saying you have to change,,but if car comes with it,,why not leave it alone? One other rule that UMP has that is wrong is the weight rule,,,Why do b-mods have to be heavier?

Just food for thought;

No nationally sanctioned sport mod class allows quick changes.

Why allow a change that limits us even more in traveling to different tracks?

I just posted this to get opinions,,this is not a rule to be changed,,,Hell who knows about UMP! They have screwed with the UMP street stock rules for 5 years now and still haven't got a set like the mods and late models do,,,at least with those 2 classes you can race anywhere,,,try that with a street stock,,,or better yet,,try it with a b-mod,,,LOL
