Looks like the 2010 racing season is not going to happen for me. I sold my car from the past two years (fondly nicknamed the "Turtle") shortly after the season, planning to upgrade for the coming year.
Recent news has changed plans, though. In November, my wife and I found out that the baby we are expecting is going to have Down syndrome. Now, we have learned that the baby is going to have some of the heart defects that sometimes go with Down syndrome.
The prognosis is very good, and thanks to modern medicine the heart defects are very treatable. But they will still require at least one, and possibly two or three, open heart surgeries anywhere from immediately when the baby is born or possibly two months later, at the latest.
With all the uncertainty coming up--having a new baby with the challenges of Down syndrome and, on top of it, one or more heart surgeries--it just seemed like the wise thing to do, to not get a new race car for this season. So looks like I will be sitting out the 2010 season.
I will definitely be at the track a few times this season (it's in my blood now, I can't stay away completely! ) and I am most certainly planning on being back out on the track in 2011 (uggh, that seems like a long time from now). But I just wanted everyone to know the reason I won't be out there racing this year, and so you can keep baby Dawson in your thoughts and prayers.
I look forward to seeing everyone and catching up with you the first time I make it to the track!
