BelleClair Closing Early in 2010?

I just received word from an extremely reliable source that BelleClair Speedway is not racing next week, will have season championships the week after and then be closed for the remainder of the season. This was supposedly announced in the drivers meeting tonight.

If this is true, this is very unfortunate for the St. Louis Racing scene.

Don't know if this part is totally true but heard it was decided mainly becus of finances and the track is heavily into debt......the economy is being hit hard I hear more n more latly of money troubles from people who never had money issues be4.. jobs are scarce...not only tracks r tight alot of businesses are as well...I also heard if someone else wanted to take it over they could not sure if any of this is true..maybe if they had more financial sponsors this would help fan counts have been very low I have heard..

i have noticed that the car counts and fans have dropped off dramatically....this is very sad to hear for alot of of drivers that have made belleclair home

Not stunned, just very sad. My first race was at that track. I can remember going there with my deceased father when I was a kid. Wish I would have braved the heat to go there tonight.

What a shame...I've come to love that track. My love for dirt track racing came from growing up watching races at Belleville and Highland. Some of the best racing I've seen in the past 10 years or so happened there. Once Tri-City got rid of the half mile, it became my favorite local track. I got to drive there this year for the first time and fell in love with it even more. I really hope they work something out. Good news for Tri-City I guess, UMP points the rest of the year at the very least.

This is a sad reality that can be blamed on a lot of things. Tri - city has alot of bigger shows that draw fans there through out the year. The food served @ belle-clair is the worst in the area. But the biggest problem that I have heard more and more, is Stan. He needs to either leave or be forced out. He is the sole reason we are having this discussion. Car count wise the class that everyone comes to see (late Models) is higher than Tri-city almost every week. The other classes are down though. Modifieds are down just about every where in the area. I was told by Kurt leaving the track that they are not closing. They will reopen next year, hopefully restructured. He was not happy that they are closing early. So let us not jump to conclusions. I have going to Belleville since I was three. I am now thirty and do not want to lose my home track. There may be better tracks in the country. But, there is only one Belleville.

Well said, Twisted. Let's not jump to conclusions. I'm sure this is going to start a huge rumor mill. I remember what my dad said about rumors, "only believe half of what you see and none of what you hear". That is sound advice in this situation. We'll all just have to wait and see what fate has in store for B-ville.

Cant say we wasnt warned a while back when the the last track that closed and i believe an allied official said there would be more.... Sorry to see that Racing is pricing itself out of business by not pulling together to lower the cost of racing in all classes...ive bet ive heard at least 4 or 5 different drivers say this may be there last season do to rising cost of not being able to compete against the fatter wallets in racing. If track owners and promoters are not smart enough to see the big picture then let em close... Someone smart will come and open up tracks that call for low budget racing that both racers and fans can afford to enjoy...
