what is the best auto racing movie ever. i got the last american hero or heart like a wheel

Grand Prix gets my vote

Grand Prix, starring James Garner and Yves Montand with cameo appearances from many formula one drivers is the best racing movie ever made. It won five or six Oscars including best picture in 1966. The racing footage alone is worth the watch, but be prepared to spend some time, it lasts about four hours, but well worth the time. I have it on dvd and I never get tired of watching it.

actually.my best liked was from the early 50s,,with clark gable and barbra stanwick "to please a lady"good plot and plenty of action with a camio by a racer named "bullet joe garson"(he won the turcky derby at the age of 58)..the movie that really got me hot to trot for racing was "red line 7000"(circa 1965)lots of great early nascar action..does any one remember who stared in "two lane black top??"

Dennis Wilson (of the Beach Boys), The Mechanic (deceased)
Laurie Bird, The Girl (deceased)
Warren Oates, G.T.O. (deceased)
James Taylor, (yes Sweet Baby James), The Driver (still alive)

Hey Fireball, what was the last car the 55 lined upped against in the final scene?

Six Pack and Last American Hero are two of my favorites and both are on Netflix instant watch so you can watch them anytime you want! But Stroker Ace and Days of Thunder are good ones also.

I think it was a 1970 El Camino.

i was hoping days of thunder or talladega nights wasn't mentioned...UGH!!!!! terrible movies. if you want to watch great movies, clark gables 'to please a lady' is great... also as brian mentioned, grand prix is also excellent. lemans starring steve mcqueen is gotta be top 3 or 4 for sure. but my favorite would have to be 'winning' with ol' blue eyes mimself, paul newman. was up at indy in '69 when they were filming parts of it. also saw james garner (yes, james garner of rockford files)get into an indy car for some practice laps, and was actually getting close enough to actually make the race! owner of the car got nervous, and had him blackflagged. pretty intense stuff for a kid. good subject. as for blueboy, are you bored now that nickelodeon stops playing cartoons at 5 pm?(i have a 5 yr. old, thats how i know that)

Yes it was..........

Besides being in the movie American Graffiti, the 55 Chevy made a brief appearance just sitting in an alley on what Jack Webb produced Police show? (hint: it wasn't Dragnet)
